pyramid rings with L92 heads???
What does everyone think about Pyramid rings with a set of L92s? Camaroandreas made crazy power with a stock internal 6.0 other than lifters, with ported 853s at just north of 30lbs of boost, so why couldnt a set of L92s hold 20-25lbs of boost with pyramiding them? Figured I would ask, seeing how every week theres someone asking if there L92 heads will hold a certain boost amount.

Pyramid rings are a European thing, they have not caught on state side yet.
For those that don't know, Pyramid rings are similar to O rings, but triangular and made out of steel. The flat side sits down in a groove in the block, and the pointed side faces the head. Usually the point is sharp enough to cut into the head.
I do not have experience with them, but I think they are an awesome idea!

I could have sworn i read that there has been several people using these in the states, even in the late 80's. Even if not how hard could it be to show a machinist a couple pics with info for them to do this? Ok say theres no one in the states that can do this, if someone wanted to o ring the block and the heads, would this be any better then say pyramiding? I have searched for about 3 months looking for someone that has o ringed a set of L92s but came up with no luck, so has anyone done this and what kind of boost were you able to accomplish?

i have a 408 build going together right now with a set of l92s. the block is oringed and cement filled, im going to throw about 20psi to it with a s91 turbo through a th400 and 9inch. Im using regular mls gaskets from summit. my last motor held 25psi with the same setup. it was a 370 with 317s on it. nothing special, went 6.2s at 118 on about 15psi.

We have very simular builds looks like, ive got a cement filled 370 block with a th400 and stock rear end. I have my L92s and off ready to sell but id rather keep them if o-ringing, pyramiding or even fire rining them helps, just saves time rather than go with a different set of heads and different intake as well. Post up how those L92s do for you when you get it done, i am very interested in what will happen with the o-rings.

pyramid rings in theory are a better design than an oring and i will be using them on my next iron block build as you can not use them with an aluminum block with sleeves as the dimensions won't jive

I also was thinking about buying the zr1 gaskets but if i can get any good advice on these pyramid rings im just going to use the mls gaskets andreas uses. The pyramid rings like said, have the same principal as o-rings and fire rings, there is a .80mm deep (correct if wrong) groove and 2mm wide cut into the outside of the cylinder on the block where the pyramid ring sits. The ring is shaped like the top of a pyramid, and when the head is bolted down it will cut into the head to make a tight seal around the cylinder. The MLS gaskets Camaroandreas uses are machined also to fit around the ring. Fire ringing is very common to pyramiding and from what i read seems like the cummins guys are using one of the two to hold 30+lbs of boost.

i do not think it will work for the dodge diesel guys, the dodge trucks use a Cummings motor and the head is cast iron. i am pretty sure you need an aluminum head for the pyramid ring to dig in to.

Yes you can use them on L92 heads.
I boosted 30 psi with 10.0 cr with standard ARP studs without any problem.
Itīs not MLS that i use around the rings, itīs a graphit gasket.
For order or questions my email is aa@pure-pf.com

If you want to make HUGE power use a copper gasket and have Shawn double o-ring that sumbit*h. We've ran over 41# of boost and never leaked, also have gone 164 to the 1/8 mile on 36# of boost. The double o-ring has been proven it works on my car and fireballs ride. This year we're looking to go 170mph to the 1/8 mile. There won't be any confusion after this year.

Those are awsome numbers but what kind of heads allowed you to do so? I read more horror stories about l92s than good when it comes to higher boost, but i just think i might keep them and go either route of ringing to test them out as i dont believe anyone has done it just yet?
