Default Compression and Turboo!

Well howdy,

So long story short, I recently bought a 2002 Camaro, 60k on the motor absolutely immaculate condition. Loving every second of it. Was built very well, and all aspects of the car were touched.

As for right now, I'm totally happy with the power the car makes (450hp/425ft.lb) But just throwing around Ideas to mainly keep my mind busy. I came from the DSM crowd, and I've ALWAYS been a turbo guy. But I fell back in love with torque when I bought the good ol' ls1.

I was doing a bit of research on STS turbo kits, Although I don't really like the setup, it seems like the easiest/ most convenient turbo kit out there. My only concern is my camaro has prc stage 2.5 5.3l heads, Which from what I've read ups the compression ratio to 10.75:1. Which I know is waaay high for any sort of FI application. I feel like the most psi of boost I could run was 3psi maybe 4psi before detonation and or explosion.

I also read that moving up to 6.0 heads would be better suited (obviously) but I don't know if it'll be worth it in the long run.

I was also looking into bottles, but I feel more comfortable with a safe turbo tune, rather than a safe Nitrous tune.

Heres the low down on the car btw.

231/233 649/598 111 lsa cam
prc stage 2.5 5.3l heads with dual springs
asp underdrive crank pulley
yella terra ultra light rockers
ls7 lifters
LS2 timing chain and sprockets
tsp hardened pushrods
ls6 ported oil pump
arp head studs
racetronix fuel pump plus hotwire kit
Bo White Ported/polished throttle body
MTI clear lid
LT's
12 bolt Moser out back with 4:11's

any thoughts or Ideas would be greatly appreciated.

car!

Uh oh, here goes STS concerns round 2!! LOL. If that is your true compression you could get away with a little more boost and run meth.

if you go with the sts set up, keep the compression where it is and spray meth.

if you are working on a bit of a budget look at the procharger kit, it is a little more then sts, but is defiantly worth a consideration, and it is not that hard to install

I have been researching a procharger kit for a while, The one thing that bothers me is the fact that it seems like you MUST by the full kit for the car.

I am not the kind of guy to spend 6k on a kit, when I could build a setup for half that. I already priced out the bracket and pulley tensioner for 400, Intercooler, piping, t bolt clamps, couplers roughly 800. The only problem Is I'm having a hard time finding a company that sells just the D1SC head unit for the ls1. All I'm seeing are the kits. any help?

You can find a procharger kit for a lot less, by buying used. I picked my Kit up for $3600. That included a FMIC, upgraded 8 rib, and the ati race bypass. Just keep an eye out in the for sale section.

E85 would take care of the high compression ratio combined with boost situation.
