broke crank / need a crank support
I think due to belt tension or other , my callies crank has snapped after the front cap just before the first rod near the shaft. damage seems minimal, but now it has me worried if i replace the crank that it will happen again . i have read that it is common for f1 applications to brake cranks , is this the common area where they brake? my questions are : what would you replace after this failure , or what would you do to resolve this issue . Im thinking of building a crank support or are there any available for the war hawk block . my belt was a gilmer set up . a picture of set up below.

Crank breakage is very rare in these engines, I've never seen it happen myself. Are you sure that croc in your avatar didn't bite a chunk out of it? We've used a lot of ProCharger F-1A through F-1R systems and have never had a problem with crankshafts. Bob

Front bearing has more wear on outer face closest to pulley, but has not spun. I still had full oil pressure, very luky not on full song when it let go felt a vibration that initially I thought it was the auto trans but on futher observation I noticed a slight oil leak from the front seal ,so out came the engine.

A cog drive is going to do that, but tensioning the hell a ribbed pulley won't? I seriously doubt it's tortional load being applied by the blower if it broke BEHIND the #1 cap (between the journal and counterweight I assume is where you're speaking) unless it was a manufacturing defect from the start. I'd REALLY like to see a macro of the break.

the cause of the brakage is obviously at a weaker spot which is common to occur i hear but knowing why? is another issue . My thoughts would be in testing the metal propertys firstly. But the proper testing is quite expensive like 10000-15000 basic testing can be done for 500 but the real diagnosis of why it broke with proper testing is the later.
Callies is producing me a crank that will be stronger in this area so time will tell.If there is enough room up front i plan on constructing a custom crank support, which will also give me more safety, unless there is one out there that fits the warhawk block let me know it will save me heaps of time. the supercharger that i am using is the vortec ysi .
