You mean my goals are 600-700rwhp. And later down the road I do plan on picking up a set of AFR's, changing from a D1 to a F1, etc etc. But I figure some ported 243's will be fine to start.
Get some as cast TFS 220cc heads and a block with a 4.0" bore. They are $1600 with a thick deck and make supposedly 10rwhp less than the CnC'd version.
The 4.0" bore opens up your options down the line if you do want to make it a stroker and also less valve shrouding.
Don't skimp on the heads.

I agree on getting someones slightly used setup that you know runs good.
Another option, although I haven't used them myself is Schanky..Not sure how its spelled, but they are a sponsor here. I haven't seen cheaper priced short blocks anywhere.

If you build you engine(target compression) around a set of heads with a 72cc combustion chamber you must continue to run a 72cc head to not pick up comp. If you mill them, your compression goes up a little. I just suggested dropping the compression in the pistons instead of the heads. and you dont recomend using arp main studs? I think your on crack lmao. Some people talk about doweling the mains so they dont walk at all. Arp mainstuds is a small, easy and safe upgrade. This isnt his endall build, he is looking for more in the future...I say plan ahead
