Default Turbo Woes

Finally got the car finished dyno tuned second day after tags and inspection blown head gasket. Question pull the heads motor in or out. I have had the engine out through the top and out the bottom, and frankly I don't like either method. Which way is easier? I was using felpro gaskets. What gaskets should I use and should I get the heads o ringed? I was really looking forward to enjoying the car after a 10 month turbo project. I am currently boosting 8# with a 9.8 CR.

The car made 498 on the dyno and pulled real strong for a half a dozen passes.

COMETIC.....no questions. I have had 0 issues with mine and I make almost double the boost and HP numbers you have. I have used them on nitrous and boosted motors. they are the best IMO.

i run 9.8 compression and 10 lbs boost with stock gaskets and just arp bolts. Its all in the tune. You have to make sure your tune is safe....

I had the dyno tune and thought I was good to go. I went to watch the ADRL races at Baytown Texas today and talked with some experts and meth injection was the recommendation. So tomorrow I will start pulling the heads and go back with studs and mls gaskets. Should I use stock thickness I think that is .040?

Outlaw racing, I would say that I got detonation. I upgraded since the tune to a Tial BOV the other may have been leaking, under full throttle I am not confident enough to be looking at the boost gauge as the car is not exactly going straight. Lol, I am new to boost and it is like hitting hyperdrive. I think I got a glimpse of the boost gauge at over 10# like maybe 12#

I have heard that Cometics are very good, I found some for $180, you are making some awesome numbers, I can't imagine what it feels like too have 1000 { 760} hp under your foot. I suspect that you make lots of smoke.

10 to 12 psi and 9.8:1 compression= detonation. the fact that you dont have studs was what probly killed the gaskets and saved the bottom end. replace the head gaskets and add ARP studs and meth before you do any running, with good studs and gaskets at that boost and compression with no meth, your asking for trouble, assuming your running pump gas. do you know what your IAT's were? also need a better way to track/control your boost levels

Cars and women I agree with your assessment the boost was set at 8# during the tune and may have crept to 10 or 12#'s which could cause detonation on 93 octane. I will do the gaskets, studs, alcohol injection and start looking for a better boost gauge. My current gauge is in a gauge pod and does not provide a very good view. Thanks. I may run in to you at one of the Houston tracks or meets.

I have data logging but for some reason I can't read from the port under dash. I had to buy some cables so the tuner could read the ecu. Just another ploblem on the list. I am glad I don't have to drive this car to work in the morning.

blk6speed you are making big power I am going with studs, methanol, and Felpro 1074 gaskets. As much as I dislike changing head gaskets I really don't want to rebuilt the engine. The 1074 act as a fuse rather than a catastrophic failure.

o-ring the heads for your future and run whatever gaskets you want. Boost is addicting and you will find yourself wanting to turn up the amount later. If they are coming off then you might as well do what you can to them to not have to worry about it later. Don't settle for doing the minimum if you can do what you can do to it now.

i wouldn`t set myself up for failure or part failure,it will just make your life hell...looks like you have good stuff..top it off with more good stuff and enjoy years of fun...not more work..as far as me making power, I don`t think 600hp is that big of a deal anymore ..

Fugitive, If you o-ring the heads what gaskets? I have been searching and many posts '
suggest Felpro 1074's so if detonation occurs the gasket fails before an engine component.
