Default To achieve 500-550rwhp

Just wondering some setups that could get me to this goal. Or is it even possible?

Foundation would be a lq4 a 4l80e and single turbo. What size turbo would be ideal? What head gaskets?

are you stuck on turbo? or are you willing to go with s/c? I made 505 with a P1SC @ 7lbs and a completely stock LS2 with a solid conservative tune so I can hammer it all the time.

If you just want that horsepower and no more - try all motor, but FI seems to be awesome!

I just made 500/461 through an auto and 12 bolt with a 02 LS1 stock motor intake to oil pan. Never been opened up. I have a D1 feeding it though.

you say foundation would be an LQ4. is this stock displacement/valvetrain/top end too? as you can imagine this would make a huge difference.

It will likely be hard not to make at least 500rwhp with just about any turbo or super on a lq4 , as said guys are doing that pretty much NA .
Just go look at dynos in the dyno section. Should find lots there.

I would really like to go turbo. I like the idea of all the fab work i will need to do and make it my own. Supercharger crossed my mind but not really what i want.

I do want to keep this FI because its just plain out badass. The motor will be stock displacement, but not apposed to changing the heads for some 241s or 243s, which ever one would be best for the set up, just trying to keep it on a buildget to start with then see were it will end up from there. Also will be using a ls6 intake and ported TB if my tuner thinks it would be ok.

If he says the intake isnt ok, find another tuner. That gains almost 20hp by itself. Ported TB is something I have, just because I got it cheap. Not entirely necessary. lol

id say at least buy some new springs, maybe some rockers as well. a built valvetrain would be a good idea, but you could also pick up an ls6 cam for cheap. that would be a good foundation for cheap, if thats what youre going for.

MLS headgaskets
ARP head bolts
Master Power T76/something around 1.00 ar exhaust housing (ModularTurbo ~$700)
DIY turbo hotside pipe (summit ~$200)
CXracing intercooler/cold piping (ebay ~$150)
Tial BOV and WG set (ebay for ~$400)
PRC dual Valvesprings
Hardened Pushrods
stock or 02+ ls6 cam

that about it and you will be around 600hp pretty safe on 91ocatane NO meth!! 700hp if you wanna get a little spunky!! lol

This is true. It will not take much boost to make 500 rwhp. I installed a GT-88 rear mount on my 408 and with 12# of boost and the turbo not making any boost until right when it shifts into 2nd gear, I run a 126mph in the quarter with a 4000lbs car with a DA of 6019 feet. This comes out to 620rwhp not corrected to sea level. Once I get it to spool out of the hole I expect to be running 130+mph in the quarter mile.

Do you want to go rear mount or front? Either way I would not put anything smaller then a 76mm turbo, a PT78 would be a great fit on your setup. I would think you would easily get 500rwhp with a stock LQ4, stock heads (you will have to put good springs on the heads, and even a stock cam with 6-8 # of boost. Put a VTC-2 or 3 (from Virginia Speed) and a good set of springs and a set of forged pistons (around 9:1 compression ratio) and a set of good rods, with around 13# of boost and I bet it will make 700rwhp and still sound close to stock and drive like a stock car, +a good tune of course.

Give Shawn or Ed at Virginia Speed a call and I bet you will be stunned with what they can do for you.

I have been working on a good friend of mines car, it is a 98 Camero with a 0.030" over bored LQ4 block with stock crank, Eagle rods, Forged pistons, 9:1 compression, stock 6.0L heads with good valve springs, nice blower cam, and a D1SC pushing 13-14# of boost and he is cutting 1.49 60ft times and running 10.7 at 128mph all at 3000ft and a DA of 6019 feet, and we have not finished tuning it. 9's at our altitude are not out of the question.

Build the bottom end strong, get the compression ratio right for boost, get a good tune, nice FI cam for your setup and hang the F&#K on!

Can you say hello 9's?

Keep us posted on what you decide to do and your progress.

Thanks for all the good info so far fellas. Its going to be allitle bit before i start my FI 6.0 swap. Just getting the part i want and need and start collecting so i can do it all at once.

I want to keep the shortblock stock for now. Maybe build it down the road after i get some good numbers. I do plan on doing springs and harden PRs. As far as the turbo, im real open to what yall think is combatable for the set up. I am going to be doing a front mount.

What are the 317 heads off of?
