Default Is boost a good idea?

For my current setup, is adding a turbo going too far? I have a '00 Z28 with boltons, macs mids, ory, F1 cam (230 226/.591 .569/ 112+4), vig 3600. Also stock heads, tranny, and bottom end. The turbo is a 57trim and would be used as a daily driver setup and not dogged on a lot. I just want to know if it's safe and reliable enough to give it a go.
Also will it work with my current setup with my cam, headers, stall? Or will I need turbo manifolds and a boost friendly cam?

Boost is always good...but as you dont give any clue as to what size of turbo, its impossible to say.

WAY to small of a turbo. unless you are going for Twins . about the smallest single turbo you will see ls1 guys/gals running is a 60-61. and they run out of steam up top.

And NO WAY!!! boost is never bad, lol. just do your homework and do it right. And you may want to get a bigger turbo.

I'm looking for a good setup that's reliable and net ~550-600hp.

Outside the turbo, how much and what parts extra are needed to finish?

goinog twins is neither more or less reliable. but def almost twice the cost.

Can you fab?
do you have access to a welder, or machine shop?
how much of a budget do you have to work with?
these are all things you need to ask yourself, call rob at modular, or try another sponsor here, if you tell them your goals and budget, they will be able to help you get things sorted out.

i was able to get blown, LOL!! for right at 3k, thats with a rearmount kit. id imagine if you can fab and have the time for your car to sit, then you could get the same thing going on a front mount. But i got alot of stuff for free, or really cheap.

I do have access with welding as well as install. My car is my only transport but that will change by the time I have all the parts. Then it can sit for the duration, but tuning is the ?, I might be able to get a hookup.

well then i say single front mount for the win, the nice thing about your build is, there are lot and lots of single front mount build threads here, and most everyone did theirs the same way, so lots of good info.

Tuning in texas should be simple, lol. There are tunes of speed shops and reputable tuners down there

Cam is not the most boost friendly but just about any cam can work not too bad. Compression is high but you can possibly get some 317 heads if you are on budget to lower the compression or run alc/meth injection and less timing and boost.

Factory bottom ends have strong cranks, not the best rod bolts and weak pistons but if you have tuning right and keep boost low you should be ok on factory bottom. Some guys have good luck for longer some not so good lucky goodbye ringlands.

4l60 is pretty weak in stock form. You will need to upgrade that or can go to 4l80 or turbo 350 or turbo 400 if you don' want overdrive.Stock 4l80 is pretty strong and has overdrive and not that bad a swap really.

Remember you need support mods as well. New fuel pump, 45 or 60 pound injectors.
Fi can start off fairly cheap depending as said on your fab and welding skills but it can add up fast if you wipe out stock engine,trans,rearend..it will find the weak links be assured of that. Most guys are greedy and have problems not turning up the boost. If you are conservative you can make the stock stuff live a lot longer.

So have money in reserve if you go FI. And stay away from cheap knock off stuff..knock off gates, blow offs and turbos. Master power seem ok for pretty cheap and for gates and blow offs like to stick to the big brand names, tial, turbosmart.Use decent silicone and clamps. And the rest is just plumbing..Well forgot you need decent intercooler,water/alc is good thing to have with higher compression on pump gas,you need some instrumentation nice to have incar wideband and good boost guage or controller, fuel pressure is nice to have incar as well.

This is my plan for the setup..... I have only made ONE track pass since '03 and honestly don't plan on doing many if any more. I don't street race unless it's for lack of better words worth the trouble. I want it for the thrill, the sound, the experience, and the occassional feel. So that being said, will all the weak points still be sought out and brought out if I'm a grownup with the gas pedal?

I've got a TA girdle if it helps any. The driveshaft can be taken care of but the tranny is one of the big ?'s. I know that if I want the boost i have to prepare to increase risks.
