2 Intercooler Questions

2 Intercooler Questions 1. Are they directional? IE is there an inlet and outlet or can air flow thru either direction.
2. Any body know the dimensions of the intercooler Rob uses on his kit? I really like how he has it fit in there. My brother may be getting a welder so I am kicking around the idea of perhaps just maybe using an intercooler on my setup since I will have the ability to do my own plumbing, bracket making etc.. cheap cheap.

Depending on the intercooler design, the better ones have internal baffling on the inlet side of the end tanks to maintain a constant velocity. The core as far as I have seen they will flow either direction.

Baffleing is not needed if tanks transition in size to a shallower volume. This will help keep pressure equal across the core area making the entire core usable. The most efficient intercooler will not have any change in air flow directions within the unit itself (sometimes this is not possible) but an intercooler is not an elbow or a turning radius of any sort. This should be considered upon designing your system.

If that were the case the performance gain would be negligable. There is always a trade off for instance the best performace out of a tc/sc would be the shortest distance between tc/sc outlet and throttle body but; you must take into consideration do you have to create a ton of turns to get to the trottle body to make the distance as short as posible then the trade off would be to take a little longer route to the throttle body and posibly transition in size of pipe to maintain pressure if the route is long enough to loose presure. Another good rule of thumb (if possible) is to keep turns away from the core and transitions if possible.
