Question Large Diesel turbo on 5.3?

Ive got a somewhat odd kit Mi in the process of buildind. Ive got a somewhat large diesel turbo for a marine volvo MD-41. Its a large I-6 with a 4600rpm redline. This turbo pushes 30-45psi into these engines above 3800rpms. Im getting a duramax intercooler, vortech FMU, injectors ect.... My Question to you turbo guys is with a good adjustable wastegate would it be safe to install this setup with my increased compression and stock injectors? That is if i temperarily keep the boost down to @3-4 psi. In september ill be rebuilding the engine with forged internals and 8.5:1 comp. I just want to finnish the kit and get it on. Thanks for any input guys.

I would think a turbo from that engine wouldn't be the correct specs for our engines but you never know. I'd talk to some turbo shops first and get their opinion first.

Ive heard people using turbos from diesels on other makes before, just not any ls1s yet. I dont think diesels flow as well as gas engines, which explains the higher boost numbers.
it might not be worth it to do 4psi, you wont see much gains that way, i would shoot for about 6psi and dont forget to have it tuned and enough fuel.

It may work. I would personally talk to a turbo shop though. Majestic Turbo is a good shop here in Texas. They carry or can find just about anything.

I have a Duramax Diesel with the Predator Programmer, it has a 6.6l motor. (4 programs) 40, 60, 85, & 120hp. The I/C is Huge...I don't know what size the Turbo is but with the 120hp it spins my 325/60 18's to the point that I removed that program and put in the 60hp setting..it was rediculous for my 4X4 Crew Cap to spin my big *** Nitto Terragrapplers.

Bottom line is...I don't have any real noticable lag. Your CID is a little smaller but not that much..in fact your motor may flow better than my Diesel Motor. I think this turbo will work fine on your 5.3l especially with your CR...if makes 120hp on my motor it will probably do more on yours.

The turbo exhaust side is water cooled, for cooler inlet temps, which I think will be good for detination. The turgo is very simular to large auto turbos. 2.4 inlet and 2.2 exhaust. When I get the forged internal engine built I want to push @ 10-12psi. But thats future plans. right now Im just trying to finnish the kit. Will a Vortech fuel pump 50gallon @70psi be enough to support @ 700hp?
