Default Flex pipe

I am in the design phase of making my own front mount kit for my 'ol LS1 powered work truck. I have been looking at pics of other peoples setups and doing my research. I am going to build a log manifold and mount the turbo on the pass side and use a crossover pipe underneath to connect the drivers manifold to the back of the log. My question is, what is the purpose of the flexible pipe most people use in the crossover and is it really necessary? Factory exhaust systems that have cross over pipes to connect the 2 sides of the motor into a single exhaust dont use these so what exactly is the purpose of using one? Thanks.....

im guessing they are there becuase most people arent designing things with solidworks and or the like. Most people are using a tape measure or some other means of measuring, and its nice to have some flex there "incase" they arent "perfect"

This is merely a guess though, i really dont know why, but seems to make sense to me.

Ya, Im pretty sure thats what its for. Id rather spend the 30$ for flex pipe then measure, cut, reweld, measure, cut, reweld, measure, etc. lol

I'm pretty cheap when it comes to something thats not necessary lol, so if the reason is just to make things line up easier then I am keepin that 30 bux in my pocket!!

Anybody else care to chime in?

there would be no need for flex in that system other than to ease install.

+1, it just puts less stress on the piping to have a little flex to it, and therefore will have a less chance of cracking
