Default Anyone using the TC78 with the 1.15 AR?

Trying to see if the 1.15ar will out perform the .96 on a ETP-headed 347ci on E85. Is the later spool worth the added top end? Is there a noticeable "*** dyno" feel between the two?

personally i think the 1.15 a/r is too big for a 347, unless you rev it sky high

Yes it will be worth it, esp since you are using e85. The PTE 76-78 gts will make more power

I am using the TC78 right now with 1.15AR, The turbo spools very fast. Ran a best of 10.0@148 on 8psi E85 LS3 engine

Yes you will pick up another 40-50hp with the swap to the 1.15A/R. Ask the guys from Baker Engineering, they did some back to back with the .96A/R and then swapped to a 1.15A/R unit.

what would the spool difference between the two? All things being equal just a quick turbo a/r swap?

That's a tough question to answer it depends on how much backpressure your seeing with a .96a/r.

My TC76 W.96 a/r had so much backpressure the motor would fall on it's face at around 5000rpm, the car would start pulling hard and fall off about 5000rpm.
I ended up going to a larger freer breathing turbo with a 1.25a/r

Care to elaborate on your combination a little more? Pipe sizing, CID, power, boost etc. etc.

383 (stroked ls1) ported heads, 224/230 cam, I think the motor breathed to well for the .96a/r

I have a TC 78 & 383 also and found it fell on its face around 5000 rpm,
went to a 1.32 ar housing and its much better, spools just as fast and makes power all the way to the limiter.

Gonna try a race cover next.

i know this is an old thread, but it kinda applies to me, I have a 383 that im building, pt78 with a .96 housing, and reading this thread, im guessing i should change to a bigger exhaust housing? If so, (kinda new with turbos) Do I just have to change the housing or do I need a new turbine wheel as well? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Dennis

at the end of the day, if its the same turbo/wheel, tis going to spool just about the same.

You wont notice the difference in terms of spool.

Your going to let the engine breath better and it will make more power per lb of 'boost'.

Yeah. Except I was answering the question about the wheel and housing. Good read though.

Ok, Im guessing they are turbo specific? Any idea on price for just the housing or does anyone have one? Thanks again in advance
