Default Spec 5 reviews?

I'm looking for some first hand spec 5 reviews. Also spec 4 reviews are welcome.

Street mannors - no sugar coating how bad is it?

How much power are you making and how much does your car weight?

How long have you been using it? And of course any issues you might have ran into. Does it require a shim? Seems silly to me to have to shim something made specificly for a certain car.

The Spec 5 I used made a squealing sound while engaging and lasted only 4-5 months. We took that out and used a SPEC 4 and its been in there for 2 years. I have since used them in every car we have built that we could not talk the customer into a twin disk.

The spec 5 only lasted 4-5 months? At what power level? Did it slip? Was it at the track alot?

The spec 4 has the same rating as a spec 3 correct? I am running a 3.. its the older design with about 10k miles on it so.. i cant really compare it to the new designed ones but I am blowing through it now.

I'm worried a 4 won't hold 750 + rwtq

If you car is making 750 ft. lbs. and you want a clutch to last you, you should be in a twin disk. Otherwise I dont really care about Specs ratings...I'd do the 4 over the 5 and 3+ that are rated higher. I have used them in 5 or so cars making around 800 ft. lbs..

I've only seen a couple cars locally with spec 5s in them. Everyone I've heard has squeeked like crazy. For not having to swap one out and have good drivability I would look into a Mcleod twin disk. I just bought their RST materialed disk (haven't installed it yet) and it is supposed to have stock drivability and hold 800. They have the RXT (I believe) and it is rated to 1000. SDPC was running a special in the sponsor sale section. I'd check that out.

I've got a 5...hate it. Squeals like crazy from a dead stop, and on shifts. Also, forget about any type of aggressive slips. It acts ******* retarded. It's good for 6K+ clutch dumps on 28" slicks in a 3700lb car. And held my 404 procharged(12lbs) just fine.

I had a stg5 in my TT T/A at 750rwhp. Don't get one. It's loud and embarrasing when you pull away from any stop and squals-sound like you have a bad belt or something. Also, it's not really a clutch....it's an on/off switch. There is no window of engagement, as soon as it grabs, it's all the way out. I pulled mine out after 3K street mile and 2 drag passes and found that the disk was cracked! I could have grenaded and put me in the hospital! I have a SPEC twin on my new setup and all is well.

spec puts there cheap *** single disks cheap so you can have a clutch for a lil bit then when you decide to go twin disk, they just soaked you for 2 stacks.

Im running a Spec 4+ on a solid hub. My car made 754rwhp/707rwtq. I havent been to the track very many times (bout 6 times so far), but it has held fine for me. I havent had any problems with it and I drive it on the street.

I had one in my car making anywhere between 850 and 1krw for 3 years and 10,000 miles. Drove fine to me, could slip it when I wanted to. Some of them do make the squeek but I guess I got lucky with mine.

Now that they have the twin discs though I would deffinately run that, and I have... better clutch. I ran the twin disc with two stg 5 discs in it... LOL.

When clutch was first installed it squeeked real bad - then it wore the flywheel so much it did not engage properly anymore (intermittent slipping). Surfaced the flywheel which fixed it for a while, but now back in the same boat. In the market for a new clutch ...still looking. Previously had a Spec 3 - no issues replaced it when i turned the boost up.

Funny to see this thread right as I'm about to order a clutch. I was lookin at the 3+ untill I can do the a twin disc but im not sure which to run. My new motor should be making 730+ to the wheels and I'm worried about it. OP....did you choose yet?

If price was no object.. a spec twin. I think summit sells a mcloud twin rated to 800 for around 7$ tha tmight be an option. Or a spec 3+ or a monster 5.. all pricey.. or even the oz700

Spec 5 drove really nice but squeled, lasted around 3 months. went through 2 spec 4's, both kept welding themselves to the flywheel so I cut an access hole in the bell housing to help pry them off. Also helped to put the car on jack stands and spin the tires up to 200mph in 6th and then jam on the brakes as hard as possible while pushing in the clutch. That helped to unstick it sometimes.

Finally got tired of clutch issues and went th400.

I'm 100% serious, 1320 and I came up with the idea and did it in his garage laughing our asses off about it and wondering if I'd break 6th gear from the shock load. We were both ready to push the car out of the shop and burn it.

Because of Spec I'm an expert in clutchless shifting, both up and down, just have to have the revs matched exactly. Good thing LS1's have strong starters because red lights are a bitch when you have a welded clutch. This was a problem with 2 different 4F's though, not the 5. The 5 just died real quick.

wow... lucky you didn't have any problems with a car doing 200 on a jack.

I don't know if I'd try that one again.
