Unported 317's for me, running 12 psi on 100% stock bottom, works good.

If you want less than 600rwhp I would put in a used Z06 cam and some good springs and not even think about changing the heads. If the engine isn't in the car then pull the heads and replace the head gaskets with MLS ones and ARP head studs.

That is pretty much the limit safely of a stock shortblock anyway.....

I think you are wasting your money doing 317 castings and especially getting them ported.

Parish ran a bone stock mileage unknown 5.3 with Z06 cam/springs/upgraded injectors with a MPT70 (Master Power) turbo, TH400 in a 3,000lb car Ford Fairmont transplant..... and went mid 9's@144mph+. He had many many runs and I don't think the engine ever let go either..... This was around 750hpish. flywheel It also ran the stock truck intake and TB.....

just get the 317s and some quality gaskets and studs.
psi gets addictive quick.
those 8psig will be nothing before you realize it. will only be matter of time before you decide to push it more... and more...

^ i would have to agree with Neme. Unported 317s for a budget build and keep the money you save to put a towards a forged bottom end. Just my 2 cents.
