Large Frame front mount without cutting the radiator support??
Large Frame front mount without cutting the radiator support?? I want to use a large frame single(gt4788), but I really have a problem with hacking my radiator support to run a large single.
Is there anyone out there that has been able to run a front mount large frame turbo on our cars without cutting up the radiator support? I dont mind doing a little notching to clear the radiator cap.
i would really like to see pics if anyone has been able to do this.

I left the top of my support, but cut out the bottom and made a smaller radiator support. There are some pics in this thread.

Verdad Gallardo Copy. Yeah unfortunately with this turbos size you are left with cutting the support. Atleast you know that there is an option available should you decided to return the car to stock form.

404/ PI 6-bolt 235 is what I am going to run........I have the short block, but not the heads yet. It is just a ls2 block, but that should get me by until i am ready for a ERL or RHS block.
I don't know why i am so against cutting..........im riding on a spool with no A/C.
I just thought maybe someone had thought of something that I was overlooking.
I may be better off running twins................they should be easier to fit if I move the fuse boxes.

i am in the same book as you. I have the same year and color hawk as well lol. But i am not running a big frame turbo, but it's positioning and the aftermarket radiator, make cutting the support almost a guarantee thing. And i was thinking the same as you, don't really want to cut it lol.
^^^ you can make custom headers and try to make it fit in the battery area
cutting the top rad support is not that big of a deal, i cut mine and welded it up nicely and most people can not even tell i have cut the support. and then you have all the room you need, even for twins.
also i would advise against fitting a smaller radiator that fits without cutting the top or bottom rad support on a street car. lets face it, a turbo car is going to make allot of power, and that will create some serious heat, so try to fit as big of a radiator as you can

I really may have to deal with notching it a little bit. I'm going to get all of the piping ceramic coated and run the exhaust wrap and turbo blankets, but I will still need a substantial radiator and fan setup.
elias 799, do you have any pics of how you did yours?
I just see a lot of people cutting that whole section out and welding a peice of square tube to the front...............I really don't like that as much........I would like to leave at least half of the factory suppport.

depends on how creative you want to get. I cut out the lower support on my old build and left the upper...radiator was moved the front side (used the griffin rad everyone else used). Turbo shown is a GT47
he had to use an oil pump but mike brown put a thumper in without cutting
