The quality of the part means more than the base design. Both H and I designs can work well if the base material and forging process is done properly.

I had a good conversation with a metallurgist once, and he said the same thing.

Any manufacturers that you feel have a reasonable QA for their forging process?

I have visited Trenton forging to check out the process first hand, and they use clean first run material and hit every rod 4 times bringing it into shape. They forge parts for Howards, Dyers and a few smaller companies in both H and I design. I like both the Howards and the Dyers product, both have a place when properly selected. The beam of the rod needs to be strong enough for the power level and the bolt needs to match up with rpm and piston weight so it can maintain clamp load at high rpm. Most manufacturers seem to have bolts in products that will work great with the LS series of engine since the cd commonly used is short enough to keep weight reasonable.
