I think a th400 comes with a 2.4 first gear, i have a t56 setup now, but i know its gonna be embarassing at the strip, and even on the highway the lag betwwen gears is unacceptable, so im looking for the best priced option that would be best for the street as well as strip.. i would go for the 4l80 but not lookin to drop 4k right now on ranny

Well imo, you don't need a glide unless your running quicker than 8.5 sec 1/4mile times. The th400 is heavier but you can run a tighter converter and let the lower first gear rip you out of the hole. The the glide is lighter, looks to have more of an aftermarket, but you need more hp to take advantage of the gearing beacause of the high 1st gear and the rpm drop between the 1-2 shift.

I stockish th400 will handle ALOT more power than a stockish glide. For instance, a $1500 TH400 will handle 1000 rwhp @ 3500-4000#'s . To do that with a Glide you gotta drop way over $2K. The thing is that once you are talking 1500-2000 rwhp, the glide is much easier to build. Just keep throwing billet stuff in there. A good Th400 that will live up there requires more than just good parts as they have more nuances.

Ya i thoughtb the th400 was a cheaper option at first until now, everywhere i call it is 1900 just for the trans and thats not even with the billet upgraded shafts... plus 1200 for conver, plus 150 for tranny crossmember and the cooler with lines and shifter with cable..
Its adding up to just about 4grand to be all setup, i was thinkin maybe 3grand tops lol

If that's the case, definitely go with the 4L80E. It should be cheaper than the TH400. The overdrive is going to take away some of the fuel-gauge-pain your 3.73s will give you, too.

Well I think it depends on OP's wallet and goals.
I had a TH400 in my '98 Formula and I would do that again over a 4l80e just based on total cost, TH400 would be cheaper.
I'm not a fan of a powerglide for a street car that runs in the 9's or 10's. You don't need it, and who wants to only have two gears for the street and highway. With my 325's, 3.50 gears, and TH400 I could hit the highway though my spool made it a little crazy to wack it.

Ya im thinkin a th400 for sure, i was curious cause i remember a couple guys said that a pg would make a good tranny for a turbo car...
Im lookin into other options than buyin one, maybe a trade for my 6speed stuff cause it would be cheaper than gathering all the parts separately
But im gonna try the 3.73's i guess and then maybe a gear swap if it doesnt work out
