Default 70 Camaro- Turbocharging 350 Q's

Alright so I have a 70 Camaro and have a decent chunk of change laying around. I want to do it for my high school auto tech project, not really worried about going too fast. Just want a nice running car, 375 rwhp? I would be happy if it would pull on a 2010 SS or 2011 GT, that's my goal. Some info about the engine before I start.

Standard 350 with a mild cam, rebuilt 10k miles ago. Rebuilt trans with about 500 miles, slightly beefed up. I think this is the weak point, might have it built up with some performance parts.

What would be a good budget turbo to use? Which waste gate? What size intercooler? What else would I need? I know I need a carb but I am pretty sure you can convert certain brands to blow through. Where do I buy piping at?

My plan was to delete the front fan and do a front mount turbo. The grill area is perfect for an intercooler. Can I buy stock logs, flip them around and do it that way? The area around the rear end is absolutely massive but I think it would be too much work to mount it back there but I think it would be easier to fab up.

So you guys think front mount or rear mount?

nitrous would be the easiest answer to your hp goals. 100-150 shot should do.

but if you must go turbo i would go front mount. have a local performance or exhaust shop fab you up a custom exhaust system. get a good blow through carb and a boost timing retarder snf get a fuel pump that can keep up.

Thanks and nitrous just scares me for some reason. Not so much worried about power, just wanted to do it for fun as my high school project.

You aren't going to pull on a 2010 SS or a 2011 GT with 375hp.

really the sky's the limit on this thing. look up some budget setups.

you can get a junkyard turbo, like a holset off a cummins (yes, not SUPER ideal) but it would work, find some manifolds, or build your own header kit. whatever. find a place to put that thing and run some tubes.

as for an intercooler and tubes, hit up ebay, tons of different things cheap.

definitely need a 'blow thru' carb.

wg, isnt a huge concern (budget) id find something cheap on ebay man.

id find a cheap turbo, build your own header kit, pipes, and an intercooler and get started.

the holset H1E is actually a very good turbo to use for budget builds. ive been using/known them since the late 90s. my first ls build used a h1e
it will support around 550bhp or around 440rw with fmic. nothing crazy but it works. physically about same size as mpt70 T4 flange. uses remote wastegate. has a 1.00+ a/r. etc.

Anyone have any links to a build thread using a 350 small block? Can't find ANY... Trans Am will hopefully be sold soon so I will have some cash to throw into it.

So I should remove the fan, install electrics, get stock manifolds flipped around, build a crossover and do it that way?

Get a Master Power T70 and a mild steel tube kit (2.5") from Columbia River. Find a mig welder if you dont have one and learn how to do it yourself. If your going to be into cars long term, there is no better time to learn than now. Ask any questions you need to ask.
I recommend a name brand wastegate (tial, turbosmart, etc) around a 38mm or bigger. Knockoff Tial 5o BOV on Ebay. CRracing intercooler from Ebay too.

Have a welder at work and school and I am good at it. Thanks for the info, only thing that sucks is my rebuilt transmission is already slipping daily driving it near STOCK power. Luckily I have a warranty.

You can convert a carb for blow through right?

And here are some pics of my car to give y'all an idea of what I am starting with ..

Nice looking car man. Rushforths right? Id get some SBC turbo manifolds, GT45, wastegate, bov, all from Ebay. If you can hold out for more $, then swap in a 5.3.
