custom griffin rad So i figured i would start this thread to help some of us save a little money. Im goin to be starting a front mount turbo build thread soon and i really wanted to go with a remote mount water pump that mounted to the rad, looking into prices the the afco rad was a little out of my price rang, so i was just goin to order the griffin that most people have went with gri-1-25241-x. When i went to k&m my local speed shop i told him what i wanted and he call griffin and we sent the pump out to them and they made the radiator to my specs just using the gri-1-25241-x size. the radiator cost me 255 without shipping....

The pump is meziere wp362 it goes for about 425 it comea with the flange that gets welded to the rad also seal and plug from what I was told it is very streetable so i guess well find out

Cuz tue part number is for a basic radiator the one in the picture is setup to mount the pump right to the side of it Nd also has 2 -12an fittings for the return lines afco makes one and the price is like 3times the price

what type of power are you going to make?
Reason I ask, I have done some research on people using the generic griffen model # Gri-1-25241-x and some have had cooling issues and some dont. Yes that one is only 179.95 from summit but is it actually the best for what you are buying for?
To support the power I would recommend the GRI-1-55241-xs.
Ok to go into this a little deeper here are the three options you can get from Summit
1. GRI-1-25241-x, (This is what everyone gets) 27.5"x15.5"x3", core size is 2" with an overall of 3". This uses only a 1" tubing!
2. GRI-1-55241-x, same dimensions all around including core size but uses a 1-1/4" tubing
3. GRI-1-55241-xs, same dimensions as previous but changes to a 2.5" core and overall is 2.5". Also uses a 1-1/4" tubing
1. 179.95 Summit
2. 269.95 Summit
3. 287.99 Summit
To explain this....the larger tubing used has a better heat exchangethan the smaller sizes. this in turn, cools better!

thought that as well at first glance until i looked up the part number.
i am doing something similar, but mine will have a separate fill as the radiator sits to low and is a double pass. navydave also runs one similar to mine and has good luck, but we are both E98 cars so we dont get as hot as a gas motor would.

I spoke with Griffen today and I will be purchasing one from them soon. It is NOT the ones described above. It will either be a 27.5x16 2 row 1.5" tubes or a 27.5x19 2 row 1.5" tubes. Both are double pass with both radiator hose ends on the passenger side and you can get the trans oil cooler or engine oil cooler in it (on the drivers side) all for $490. You can also have them install a shroud with ot without fans or fan tabs with or without fans for a little more. This radiator is good for up to 800hp.
I will be using this on my build. Hope to order it in the next month.

If I were to do it again, I would do a 25241-X WITHOUT the filler neck. I would just get a remote filler neck. Reason being, with some massaging the radiator will fit in the stock radiator support. It would have saved me alot of time and effort this winter

I ordered the Griffin Radiator I was speeking of Friday. It ended up being $913 to my door. The difference in price is the extras I got with it.
It is biult as follows:
27.5"x15.5"x4" 2 row 1.5" tubes, dual pass with both inlet and outlet on passenger side, fill on drivers side, no added oil coolers, shrowd installed, with one 14.5" SPAL fan mounted as far to the passenger side as possible, cap included. Max thickness with fan installed is 7.75".
This should give me plenty of room to mount the turbo high and to the drivers side. The fan sizing and model was spected by Griffin for my power level.
I will post pics of it when it comes in, in four weeks.
