Tc78 with 1.15 ar vs pt88?
I'm figuring out what turbo to go with and an idea I'm tossing around is keeping my tc 78 and putting a 1.15 ar housing on it. How does that compare to a pt88?
I'm running out of steam on the top end right now and want to up grade. Also the tc would still use a 3inch dp. Any one ever switch out the housing?

I have a coupe of guy that have made the switch. It all depends on what you are after. The PT88 will carry more power along with a fair amounbt of Lag. The 1.15 A/R will allow the TC78 to breathe better whick will free up some power, its not gonna produce the power of the PT88 though.

Forged 346 9.0:1 stock 241 heads ported,226/228 .600 115lsa,ls6 intake. A 1.25 ar would be nice. Im running 15psi and it chokes up around 5800. Great turbo though but im only at 133mph.

Right now the 1.15 A/R is the larget for the TC series of turbos. After that stepping up to a Bigger turbo is your best bet. The Turbonetics TC series are great turbos for everything from Basic 500-600rwhp street cars all the way up to Mid 7 Second Race cars in Twin Applications.

FWIW i have a 370 with a l92 topend with a tc78 and 1.15
granted only running 8psi but i cant feel it roll over at all power wise up to 7k
I am looking to free up some flow too as i will be upping the boost and it spools almost too fast with the 1.15 and auto anyway
there was a 1.32 and 1.52 available at one time, but can't source one now
anyway, Justin at comp can fit up a 1.32 for a couple hundered bucks

like said above it is probably a better idea just to change turbos for a larger frame, but i really love the small build and weight of the TC
I have been very curious if a turbo shop could swap the F1-68 for a GTS wheel and cut a housing to fit it? anyone know if that is possible? or does the GTS have a larger shaft?

I had the TC76 w/.96 ar on a 383, ported heads, 224/228 cam and the motor would fall over about 5k, wouldn't make more the 12lbs. Worked great on the stock motor not so much on the built one.

he had a TC78 with a .96 on a 383........ said it did roll over at 5k just like you say
went to a 1.32 and said it was a huge difference and would pull throughout
that is why i am hopeful/curious as to what a larger housing can accomplish

I think maybe the 3 in dp is too restrictive. Do some exhaust pressure tests before the turbine and also in the dp. You want as close to 0 in the dp as possible and no more than 2:1 preturbine. 2:1 being boost to exhaust ratio.
