It doesn't act like a 4 k stall too much. You gotta figure it's only going to stall that high when your feeding the coals to it. With normal driving it acts more like a 3k. The beauty of turbo cars!

man its been a while I guess its time for an update. Got my nova done and on the road, got about 500 miles on it, been working out all the bugs and learning to tune it. Right now im running 12 psi on 92 with some meth and got a couple questions.

since its a stock bottom end Lq4 and using pump gas whats a good safe AFR to shoot for. Right now I'm at 11.8 till 6 psi then the meth comes on and it drops to 10.4, im planning to lean it out to 10.8

ive got the timming at 12 while in boost, whats a safe limit?

I know thease questions have been asked before and ive read all the posts, just looking for someone with more knowlage than me that will look at my setup and tell what they think.

I made it out to the track a couple weeks ago, I am happy with the results but would like to get in the 9's as thats my goal for the car

This was my best run

60' 1.75
1/8 7.00
mph 104.8
1/4 10.76
mph 130.83

I plan to leave the line alot harder to get the 60' down and i'm either going to run 50/50 race gas and bump up the timing or bump up the boost to 15psi
what do you guys think?

right now i'm at 12psi and 13 degrees of timing AFR is 11.2

It's a kool setup. Was the body the same color as the engine bay and as slick before the flat black? It's clean and slick under the hood.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Timing is pretty conservative. How are your iats? For reference I run 20 deg at 12 psi.

stock LS PCM The tranny is a TH350, the converter is a little loose it flashes to 5300 under full boost. I plan to get a TH400 this winter and have the converter tightned up a little.

You are very safe on your tune. You will be suprised what a little more timing will do, that thing will come alive! Cool build! Oh and you are correct stuffing a big single in a shoebox Nova is a PITA but it can be done if you are willing to get out the saw.

I have always heard 12.5 afr and 16 is safe. Would add 2 degrees at a time and ck for KR.
Did you run narrow band 02 after all? I never heard of not using them until I read your thread. Just curious since I'm still working on my harness and would love to save 200 for narrow bands lol

I start with 13lbs and 13 deg total on all my cars and that is a super safe start that usually gets cars flying.

25deg on motor at 0 boost and ramp it out quick as these motors need no timing.

A trans am we just built went 137mph on 17psi and 11deg of timing it weighs 2 tons

Thanks for the info

What do you think is a better idea raise the timing a couple degrees or bump up the boost to 15psi and leave the timming alone?

How the idle? Do you have any driveability issues with it always in open loop?

i have always been a fan of running more boost and very low timing to make power, i also like to keep the cars in the 10.80 range over 16lbs instead of 11.80 like most people do. at least on stock bottom end motors

put a few lbs of boost in there, if the turbo is still happy your inlet temps will be good still,

easy way to tell is on a dyno, the car will make 18-30hp to the tire per PSI of boost in my experience. depending on setup and alot of things.

youll see inlet temps rocket or the car will just quit making power when you add boost etc.

I really appreciate the help, I changed the waste gate spring from 12 to 15psi and have the timming at 12 degrees, AFR is at 10.8-11. Ill take it to the track tommorow night a see what it does.
