I ran factory main bolts in my APS 402 engine 30k miles, 900ish horsepower. Caps looked fine since I recently tore down the block to check it out.

Theirs guys at that level with stock LS2 and LS3 force induction engines.

If i did it over again i would have gone with a forged aluminum 5.3

their liners are beefy

IIRC, don't the aluminum 5.3 liners share the same OD as the ls6 liners?

great price for a budget shortblock!

What power levels would you be comfortable rating the I beam and then H beam setups at?

I've seen stock LS2 and LS3 engines run out to 800rwhp, being thats a 6 speed corvette figure 12% driveline loss, says 896hp.

I beams are 4340 forged with ARP bolts, i'd say 900hp.

Anything more might as well put our 390ci engine in.

One question... I always thought I beams were better than H beams? But the H beams are the $100 upgrade? I could be wrong.

Depends on the style of I beam, the Scat I beams are closer to factory dimension LS rods, i'd say theirs less machine work done to the scat I rods. Oliver rods, Callies etc heavier rod.

Nick at Compstar told me I beams take lot more machining and work to produce. Also figure $1500 I beam set will use a US steel from Trenton Forging, ARP L19 rod bolts too.
