Default Thinking about switching to E85

I been doin some research on E85 and im thinking about making the switch. From what i have read i think my current fuel set up is e85 compatible except for the injectores and fuel filters.
Here's a rundown of my set up
ls2 402
afr heads
victor jr intake/elbow
Procharger F1
procharger intercooler

Magnafuel 4301 pump
return style fuel system with all ss braided lines
weldon fuel pressure regulator
60 lb injectors (107961)

I'm currently making 800 rwhp @17psi on pump 93 no meth. Hoping i can make a little more by increasing the boost on e85. I think my current fuel system can handle the added fuel requirements, except for the injectors.

What injectors would i need?

120s at a minimum. I'd go 160s.

With 800 at the tire on 60s and no meth you must have had duty cycles through the roof or a very high base pressure.

160's is what i was also thinking. Where would i be able to order them from i have been searching but can't find any. Also are these a plug and play deal or do i need a driver box, sorry im not too well informed when it comes to injectors. In regards to my current injectors i have no idea on the duty cycle or base pressure, a shop handled the build. Also forgot to mention im running edelbrock billet fuel rails.

ID 1200s, or FIC 1200s for sure, both are great.

120lb at minimum. 160s would work as well. Make sure you use teflon lines. The ethanol WILL break down rubber braided lines and clog your filter or injectors. Ask me how I know...

Fuel Injector Connection sells a set of drop in 160s that would work well with the stock computer, assuming your using one.

When you swap over to E85 do you have to modify the tank or lines.... I guess I am piggy backing this thread......lol I too was thinking about swapping to E85.....

Do you need special injectors or do you just fill up and go? I currently have a 95 impala gas tank, will have a 255 walbro(my old one died delco ep381 in for now) vette fuel filter regulator.... LS3 intake, was thinking swapping the 42's for 60lb ers.......

Looking to run 7-10lbs of boost.......
reason it gets hot here in Houston....

Or could I run a mix of 50% 93oct and 50% E85

Thx

Bozz

First off: DO NOT MIX E85 and gas! For lower HP builds ~6-700rwhp you may be able to get away with stock lines and dual walbros - I'm not sure. For that power you will need 72lb injectors at minimum. The tank will be fine. Anything above that you will need a purpose built fuel system (large AN teflon lines, fuel rails, big injectors, BIG external pump, etc)

I recommend against it because a high HP setup needs precise and consistent fueling. There's no way you're going to exactly replicate 50% pump gas and 50% e85 when you fill up or partially fill up each time. You'll get the mix slightly off and go WOT and next thing you know something's broke. If you have $$ in your setup, this is not a wise option.

When running E85/E70 or a mix of gas and E85/E70, it's a good idea to spend $100 and test the gas anyways. But I see your point.

yep, if you know what your E85's actual ethanol content is by testing you can blend with gasoline for whatever blend % you want accurately

Thx everybody....... I can see it now I pull up to the pump and hop out with a white coat on and people are like what is this guy doing, mixing gas like a chemist.....

I guess I will just stay 93 oct if mixing will affect the tune too much..... I don't want to go to the club smelling like gasoline.....lol

So for this low of a boost level, I should be fine with 93? I know you guys run ***** deep 15+ boost and I am not on your level yet.... My only concern was the heat here in Houston during the summer.... The temps get up into the 95-105* easy with the humidity too....

If you are set on running e85 or similar your clear choice is to add a METH kit. However running 15psi would be perfectly fine on 93. On my old setup I ran 17psi on a DD TT T/A.

If you have easy access to E85, I highly suggest you do it. you will be fine with 120lb injectors that would take an afternoon to do the swap and alter your injector tables. Odds are you will make more power on 14psi than you are now at 17psi with a good retune, and probably another 50whp pretty easy on the same pulley

I would get a second pump that pump is good for 1500fwhp on gas.. at a 40% increase it should flow 900fwhp. I ran into this with my setup as well

i would just add meth and turn the boost up to 22ish. that 4301 pump wont make 800rwhp on E85. the 4303 makes just over 820rwhp through a th400 and 9 inch.

sounds like a nice setup.

Update:
First of all thanks for the input.

I sent the pump out to magnafuel to get upgraded to a 4303. I'm leaning towards low Z injectors, mostly due to the price difference compared to high Z injectors.

I'm looking at a package deal Acceleronics has with (8) Lucas 120lb low Z injectors and Versafueler driver box for $649. I don't mind adding a driver box unless there is a good reason i shouldn't run one. Thats the best deal i was able to find, anyone know of any other deals?

How does that set up sound for approximately 830 rwhp on E85?
