Another Poor Mans Belt Wrap Method
well after reading the thread about the better belt wrap for the poor man i did some research and was going to do the same thing but when i got the pullys i didnt like how close the belt was to the edge...(im sure it would have worked but i didnt like it)..
I went searching for another method. I have a d1 with a 8 rib setup but i have the 6 rib standoffs that i spaced out. So i got to thinking i know that timing belt idler pulleys are wider and the way most of them bolt to the block are spaced with alot of backspacing and i figured if i flipped it around and spaced it right i could get it to work.
So i did just that, But after i got it spaced right so that it wasnt rubbing the j bracket, the j bracket was on a hard angle so i went to work with my bandsaw and measured and cut the ammount off i needed to and got the bracket straight. Everything worked out here is a few pics of my setup its basically the same thing that chevychad did but i changed my idler to a timing idler and cut down the standoff ond spaced stuff with washers to make it work.....
i know this is a little hard to read but i figured id make a thread on mine i did take it out for a drive last night and no belt slip at all and i gained 1-1.5 psi

the only part number there is is the pulley which is napa part number t42031...and of course the belt which is 25-080427.....the rest of it was kinda measure and cut because if you have a 8 rib stand off it might be different since i had 6 rib i dont remember the exact length i would have to get that tonight when i get home but i use 2 thick 3/8 washers and 3 thin ones....once you get the standoff cut its just a matter of spacing the pulley away from the j bracket enough so it dont rub

no its completely different you dont just machine down the standoff in this one you actually cut it down in lenght.... like the 8 rib is 2.75 long and the 6 rib is 2.5 long i cut mine down even more than the 6 rib i forgot to measure it last night but its supposed to be a little warmer tonight ill try to get a measurement on it tonight....i have attached a few pics of the pulley i used so you can get an idea on what im talking about
