Low Oil Pressure
Had a quick question about guys with rear mount turbo's.
Is anyone experiencing low oil pressure at the gauge? When i first start it up its about 40 lbs. after she warms up the pressure is not as high but no where near 40lbs. even a few times last summer when i did get to take it out and i was sitting at a light, it would dip down to nothing and the Check gauges light would come on. I freaked me out so i turned the car off and trailered her home. After i got it home i went to show my father and it did the same thing. had fine oil pressure have it was cold and once it warmed up it started to fall.
Now the pressure does climb when the rpms go up, and the motor has never gotten hot or came close to getting hot.
So I've been racking my brain about this, and the only thing i could maybe think of was that the motor is experiencing a lack of pressure due to pumping oil to the rear of the car to the turbo and to the scavenge pump.
I'm half scared to drive the car now, i've also thought about capping the oil line to the turbo just to see if the gauge is messed up but i don't wanna cut off the oil supply to the turbo.
Can anyone help me out here?
Compression has nothing to do with oil pressure. Your engine clearances such as main and rod bearings will determine your pressure. Stock ls motors have tight clearances that result in high pressures vs a built motor that may be built with "looser" clearances for more abuse.
As long as pressure rises with rpms and I would not worry. Consult with your engine builder on what oil they recommend for your application.
