Question welding v-band to throttle body??

would it be worth the time to Weld a V-band flange to a stock LS1 throttle body?

im doing a 346 single turbo build for my Nova, as of now im in the parts collecting phase, and, i want to use v-bands everywhere i can just to erradicate any headaches that get caused from silicone couplers, and plus its just a cleaner look and easier to dissasemble.

ive seen them welded to wilson throttle bodies and such, so i beleive it can be done, any pointers?

I welded a 3.5" V band to my LS1 TB without any trouble.

i run the silicon couplers from frozen boost or fle bay up to 30psi without many issues, i get the occasional blow off but not very often, once or twice a year at the most.

one thing i've read is you wanna keep the TB blade open because of the AL expanding.

If your engine is bolted in solid, then you can use v-bands and solid pipes.

If your engine can move within the chassis, then there must be flexible couplings somewhere or things will break.

I agree with stevie, but you can still weld on a Vband on the TB, and use a coupler at the intercooler where you have the larger bead to help hold the coupler in place.

When ever I see TBs welded on, they are usually submerged in water up to the throttle blade to help keep the seals cool, and all the sensors are removed.

You could also use a vibrant setup.

This is correct. A solid V-band connection will crack the intake eventually because it is solid and cannot move. A "wiggins" style connection is much more better suited.

Wiggins, like stated

Knockoffs available on ebay but I can not vouch for quality.

They are super neat but deff expensive. Maybe I will grab a few of the knockoffs for my next build to see how they are.

So submerge the TB in water and weld it? I was contemplating welding on my FAST 102mm. I hate to use a silicone coupler if I dopn't need to. The FAST TB is rather thick so I don't see any real expansion problems. Onbly problem I see is I need 4" and I wanna say the TB is smaller than that, which means I have to use some sort of reducer, which stinks. Never mind that comment, 102mm is about 4" so that does not make sense.
