Default 408ci roots blower build

Well i finally bit the bullet and started my build after months of decisions.
It's a 6.0l block bored .030 with the callies speed pak with upgraded i-beam rods and the forged diamond -28 dished pistons.

Should be around 8.5cr

Keith Craft AFR 245 ported heads.

ED Curtis FTI hyd roller cam designed for a 10-71 roots blower.

BDS 10-71 stage 3 blower with billet rotors coming if my intake ever gets done. ha-ha They have been working
on it for about 11 weeks now.

BDS 3 hole bug catcher hat and 16 injector efi setup.

Holley dominator ecu kit coming when that gets in stock with there coil setup and wire harness.

Will post pictures as the build starts.

I powder coated the block chrome looks pretty trick.

I'm still debating on the boost setup. I was thinking seting it up at 10psi and have 12lb and 16lb pulleys sent with for the dyno. The master tuner Mark thinks a 8lb setup and then have 10lb and 12 lb pulleys sent with. i'm sure he will chime in with more details.

I should mention this will be a E-85 engine and shooting for 1,000 -1,200 hp

What everyone think about setting up the boost to achieve my goals? A here a few pictures of the vehicle also. I know Mark hasn't seen these.

8.5 cr and only 8 psi seems pretty conservative for gas, and very conservative for ethanol.

I agree, that blower, CR and fuel should be good for 20+ all day every day.

Please update this thread with all the detail you can. Im trying to talk my dad into going this way on his 68 camaro. Right now he has a dart blocked 350 with a BDS 8-71 on it but its got to come out and would be the perfect time to swap to LS power

The intake is being Cnc'd for the ls1 engine. BDS started advertising the roots blower intake for the ls1 before the r&d was done. I think I'm getting the #1 or 2 intake that they are producing out of 50. Pretty time consuming and I'm not a patience person haha. They say by this coming Friday everything should ship. So I'll see.

We might dyno it n/a just see what it makes before putting the blower on it. I was told that with 8 lbs it should make my target of 1,000hp. What does everyone think it will take to make the 1,000-1,200 hp range? I still have the stock block so I don't want to get crazy with.

Unless I'm not at all understanding E-85 and 10-71 roots boost, I think you'll need way more than your 8psi to reach your goals. Any other type of f/i would require way more boost to reach your numbers. Neat project

We talking RW or crank HP? It will take 14ish#s to make 1000 at the crank depending on what the exact cam specs are and just how far you push the tune. Generally you start losing power with E85 before you hit KR from what Ive been reading. Definitely not going to happen on 8#s though. Either way its going to be an awesome build. Once youre done I may have to PM you for some prices on everything. My dad needs one of these.

I should clarify hp at the crank. I was thinking 16 lbs of boost. But the tuner builder is a former katech employee and has seen 1,000 hp with a 2300 tvs with 10lbs of boost? With stock ls3 heads. He seems to think this will surprise me. He wanted to bet me even on this. Haha time will tell I guess

The 10-71 is just a regular old heat machine isn't it?

I think the tuner/builder is a little misguided. No way a TVS2300 is going to be anywhere near 1000 hp on 10psi. I'm running two of those blowers and absolutely love them, but that's more than a little unrealistic.

Depends on what blower it is, his is a very nice blower. It's also a BIG blower, so it doesn't have to be spun that hard to get some decent boost on a little 408.

I would like to use the BDS lower manifold with a Whipple blower. There is a guy on Yellowbullet that did a Whipple 305 on a Charger and made the bug catcher drive by wire.

I did look at the that whipple blower but if my memory is correct it's pretty spendy? That's a pretty slick setup.

On the 10-71 setup of mine. 16psi is a 1:1 drive. I'm thinking with the E85 being injected above the blower and keep it under driven it shouldn't really make that much heat. If so i guess an intercooler will be on the way. lol

I agree. It will take at least 14 to 16 psi. Bob
