Default S91 Turbo Problem.

Ok, so here is my question. I have pretty much a brand new S91 turbo from Borg. It does not want to spin when the compressor housing is on it. It gets locked in. When I pull the compressor side off the turbo it spins with no issues. When I put the compressor on and tighten it down it jams the turbo and if I rotate the compressor it un-jams it but it still sounds like it scrapes the walls.

Any help would be good. I just need to know what to do with it. The turbo has pretty much 0 miles on it.

Here is a picture of what might be going on.

Sound like a bent shaft to me.

When you say "pretty much" brand new, are you saying you bought it from a retailer or you bought it off a person who never used it?

you are sure the housing is seating correctly without an obstruction or the like anywhere?

I took the compressor housing off to look at everything, all seemed fine to me. But could this be caused by someone dropping the compressor housing? I bought the turbo new off someone about a year ago and the project was just complete.

I had the same problem with my gt-91. I got a new housing from Jose and cured the problem. He told me that the dyes used to machine our housings wears out after around 50 cuts leaving the housing out of round even it looks fine by eye.

Sounds like good news. Yeah I will talk to him on Monday. I heard the same thing from my friend he told me that it could be the housing was just bad. But do you think I would need to balance the turbo internally even if it scraped a little bit? I mean it was never fired.

They are really sensitive to getting them clocked correctly. I took the cover off of my S95 and didn't put it back on exactly perfect the first time. The wheel would barely touch the compressor cover.

It shouldn't be. If thats really the case with Bw I would move onto something else.

the bolt holes should be concentric with the opening. if it is hitting based on how it was clocked, then the housing wasnt machined correctly

Sent the turbo out to Jose at FI, he told me most likely it's just a bad compressor housing. I should be getting it back early or mid next week. Hope everything goes well. As soon as I get it back Dyno numbers will follow.
