Default Blowoff valve on intercooler instead of TB charge pipe?

Saw a couple builds lately where people had their blowoff valve welded to the intercooler instead of the charge pipe just before the throttle body. Seems like a decent idea, but I wasn't sure if there was a benefit to having the BOV closer to the TB or not. I figure either way it'll vent the pressure when the TB blade closes.

Yep, no issues there. I'm running my BOV (bypass valve) on the IC tank directly after the blower. It's the shortest path for unwanted pressure to exit.

As long as it is before the outlet of the intercooler you will be fine.

Not to put you on the spot or call you out, I am just curious as to why that matters?

Isnt the TB charge pipe after the intercooler output and I see 95% of the cars out there with the BOV there?

You can honestly put it anywhere on the cold side. Certain locations may be more ideal than others.

95% of cars run it near the TB. Theres been alot of discussion about it but either way is fine, as long as you have one. lol

For serious setups, I've seen both on the I/C pipe and tank...at the same time.

for some SERIOUS setups, I've seen no BOV at all, haha. Go figure.

Yea it's been thrown around back and forth that you want the BOV before the output of the IC, but it has not been done that way and worked fine. Internet hypocrisy...

Putting it on the inlet side of the ic or on the tubing pre i/c will help the intercooler safe from some of the pressure spikes associated.

Its main purpose is to protect the turbo from back loading/pressure surge when the throttle blade is closed.. So the ideal spot would be as close to the turbo as you can get it..... because the further away from the turbo the longer you are going to take to release the pressure from it.... but its milliseconds... and i guess in the right circumstances thats all it takes to mess something up. You have to remember the turbo is spinning thousands of rpms, and then suddenly close the TB.... after the intercooler would be even worse. In the short time the pressure before the IC will build.... Milliseconds I know.. but why not do it right?

I think people think that they need to put it near the TB because that is what actuates it.
Mine is on the charge pipe coming right out of the turbo....because protecting the turbo is why I baught it.... not to sound like a ricer and be cool. Its purpose has nothing to do with the TB.

If you are going to put it on the IC, definately the inlet side, because the restriction of the IC will delay the pressure release on the other side....thus putting the turbo in potential danger. (most will never matter, its so minute...maybe in a high boost application it would matter more.??)
