Default gts 76 vs tc78

what would you choose? I plan to run a stock 5.3 motor til I can build up my 6.0. I hope to get 650 out of the 5.3 and who knows what from the 6.0.

I've run both. The Precision makes gobs more power with very little loss in spool time.

How do they compare in physical dimensions? My TC78 will more than push the short block I'm running to its limits...just wondering for future reference.

If you go the TC go with the 76mm. I had a TC76 vs the T78 and the TC76 ran just as good or better, and spooled quicker. That little 68mm exh wheel doesn't spinn that extra 2mm as well.

76gts have a 75mm turbine? That's the crappy part on the tc78, is the 68mm turbine wheel... can make some pretty good power on smaller c.i. tho...

I love my PTE76 it's an awesome unit. Quicker spool than you would expect and pulls to 6600 with my puny cam before it even feels like it's starting to lose steam.

I've ran tc76/gts76 back to back in my firebird and now the tc78 and billet 7675 in the rx7 and ltd. The tc definitely spools faster, but does give up some power, just depends on how much you want to make, if you want 700rwhp or less go with the tc, otherwise go with the precision.

Skinnies, did you ever measure/record backpressure when using the tc78, thats my only concern with my setup(using the tc78 on 6.0L) i know the turbine wheel sucks, but im using a 1.15 housing and 3 1/2" downpipe with good exhaust to try help it breath a LITTLE better up top (only plan on revving to 6000rpms...)

With what you are trying to achieve the TC76 and proper A/R housing will easily do it. Spool faster then anything else as well.

The PT will be much better suited to the cubes of a built 6.0 than the TC. The TC will do 650 on a 5.3 no problem though. They're both good units honestly, but IMO, I'll happily give up a touch of spool for 100+ hp.

I never did, but I was on a .96 housing with 3.5" open downpipe. I'll stand behind my above 700rwhp switch to a precision. I've got my billet 7576 turned up on my ltd(highest it has seen is 24.5lbs) with no coolant issues. I think the tc would push coolant at this level with the high back pressure.

I have the .96 housing and 3.5" DP and 3" exhaust. Mine spools nicely. I do plan on adding a 3.5" cut-out soon and a Eboost2 so I think those two mods will really help my spool time immensely.

WOW....that is a serious change...

How did the dyno graph look? Was the peak level at a lower or higher RPM?
With these numbers, if $$$ was not a problem, why would one run the TC78?

I remember reading in Z28Cobra Killers thread for his buddy that the Twin TC78's they replaced with PTE76's were the exact same in physical size, but the turbine wheel is a 75 on the pte where as its a 68 on the tc78 which is where the extra power comes from and the billet wheel on the pte helps spool time and helps deflection at high boost. IIRC
