new record: stock longblock 4.8
on paper this should not even work
gears are too short at 4.86:1 "dont load the motor enough"
NA cam thats too big and too radical 230/234 at 111+2
non-intercooled
th400 with a 2.75 first gear(ouch)
shifting at 7500-7700rpms
vic jr intake with 4 bbl throttle body thats too large for a 4.8
the build basically goes against all conventional turbo wisdom
in my 3rd gen nova, race weight of around 3200lbs
on 8.5 psi it made a bunch of 6.6-6.7passes around 106, mph.
last night, on 15 psi boost, it ran
pass 2(and best pass) :
60 :1.4143
330: 3.9241
1/8: 6.0428
mph 115.77
pass 3:
60: 1.4271
330:3.9602
1/8: 6.0716
mph: 116.37
pass 4:
60:1.5125
330: 4.0438
1/8: 6.1816
mph:111.63
stock shortblock with stock rod bolts, bearings, timing chain, etc
stock untouched heads, head gaskets, head bolts, didnt even take em off engine
stock alternator and mounts, water pump, starter
basically the only things changed were
vic jr intake and 4bbl tb, 96lb injectors
cam and springs
oilpan
running the holley efi
i ran it lean on the last pass hotlapping it and hurt the motor but it is coming back with another stock long block 4.8 and i'll be going for the stock longblock record regardless of engine size which I believe is a 5.808

Jesus what size turbo are you running, that's mighty impressive.
Usually with a turbo, and I say usually a single plane intake, and too large of an TB, or carb can be forgiven more than a NA setup. I think also the duration and lsa of the cam is helping you with your high shift points and helping to carry the hp high into the rpm band where the 4.8 is going to shine.
Love to see conventional wisdom thrown out the window and see 6.0 flat passes as the outcome. Bravo to you sir, when do we get videos of this beast?

lol I thought i was fast back then
I think it has 5.89 in it as it sits. only reason I say that is because I wasnt on the throttle 100% the whole pass. for whatever reason I got off the throttle on the 1-2 shift. also, the track held the 4400rpm ,11psi launch. im putting in a new converter that should let me launch at 5000rpm and 15psi. that should bring the 60s down in the 30s hopefully and get me in the 5s.
to take the record though I'll probably need 18psi or a lot cooler air
good luck with your build man. I'll be watching. what are the specs on your motor?

I wish I had faster access to a 1/4 mile also. I have Piedmont Dragway 5 miles from my house on the same road that I live on. Closest 1/4 mile I beleive is in Charlotte at Zmax 4 wide. Maybe there is one closer that I am missing I'm not sure.
Main reason why I went from 3.08's to 3.55's....

the front is really hurting me. I have heidts/strange coilovers that dont transfer weight well and they have a street oriented compression so they dont hold the weight up when it is transferred.
some race coilovers in the front would definitely help me a lot
