I did some more work on the car today. Not much, but a bit.

New timing cover with seal installed.

Took the old timing cover off, still nice and clean in there.

Nice new timing cover installed.

Then I decided to cook up some tasty balancer for lunch...

Shame it turned out to be the wrong balancer (VE/Corvette shallow style), and I didn't notice until AFTER it was installed....

Nothing new to report really. I'm waiting for the weather to clear up a bit so I can get some work done. Hopefully I'll get some time over the weekend to at least get the shiftkit sorted.

What happened to cause the cracked block?

Bad fuel or leaning on it too hard?

Probably average tuning killed it. I changed the injectors and put an auto in at the same time. Was trying to tune for too many things at once on the road. But that said, I don't know exactly when it failed. It was machined way too far for an alloy block with boost though.

Were you tuning it yourself?

Good luck with it. What size is the new engine going to be?

Same size, I'll be reusing the same 390ci rotating assembly. The failure is more to do with the 30thou oversize on an LS2 block than it is to due with tuning. As I said, I'm only assuming it detonated. I didn't see any knock on the logs, I didn't hear any knock, and was only running 5psi at the time of failure.

New setup should be the goods man. Howcome you went all out with the LSX block instead of an LQ9? Bigger turbo in the future... Heh

I managed to score the LSX block for pretty much the same price as an LQ9. Hard to turn away at that price. And yes, I've sold my turbo, looking at stepping it up when I can afford to again. Will need to be NA for the moment.

Not bad progress for the day...

Rather unhappy looking main bearing. I thought I put in alot of effort to ensuring the block was clean, but apparently I didn't!

Not much to report for the moment. All going well I should finally get the block back from the machine shop tomorrow. They are just waiting on cam bearings at the moment.

I picked up some seals from Spencer Race Engines today and glued them into the rear block cover and the cam retaining plate. The LSX block is a little different than typical LS engines with these seals. The LSX has o-ring grooves, where the other blocks use bonded seal plates. This makes the LSX a bit dicky, but I got them glued in nicely.

My new rings also arrived from Total Seal.
