Default 600-650 rwhp goal. buy lq4 bottom end or rebuilt spun rod ls1?

tried searching but wasnt fulfilled. haha

Talked to josh @ KY turbo setup and im getting ready to pull the trigger on a header turbo kit tc78. Im trying to do this on a budget, lol yea... right. Im wondering if i should just buy a low mileage lq4 and upgrade the rod bolts and put my ported ls6 heads on it? Or would the stock lq heads work ok with a turbo cam and i can sell my heads for more parts.

When i add in the cost of a forged rotating assembly and machine work is it really worth it for my power goal? I mean i could get a complete motor for half the price of just a rotating assembly that should be strong enough to hold my power. Assuming im going to be smart with the tune (timing) and run meth for safety think it will live for a few years?

The lq4 bottom end is a little tougher then a ls1 no? compression im sure helps.

id do a 5.3 with 241's which will keep you at around a 9.1:1 comp throw a zo6 cam in it sell the ls6 heads and the cam and put it towards rod bolts and head studs. If you want a lower comp get 317's which will give you a 8.5:1 comp. Most people believe that 8.5:1 comp is to low and the car will feel sluggy out of boost. plenty of people have made 600+ with a 5.3. when this is done have fun and build a motor to hold more boost

Rod bolts are a joke watch your rpm's and no problems. I have done LS motors since 97 and have no proof rod bolts do anything, I question the fact of loosening them and retorqueing different might be worse for bearings and caps

hmmm got a local 5.3 in a junkyard asking 495... might have to make an offer. peaking my interest in a budget build now. 6.0's are priced high anyway.

and i do have my stock 853's sitting in the garage i could put on...

~400 dollar short block
5500 turbo kit from ky turbo
400? 60# injectors
200 racetronix 255 enough for < 600 horsepower?

now were talking somewhat fast for cheap

I would get a dual pump kit so you dont have to go back in frost has some awesome set ups. Cheap 5.3 is okay but you need a good fuel system to keep it happy at that power levels.

for 600 you can get a in tank dual pump kit that will handle 1000rwhp sell the heads and cam and put it towards that.

Oh and id get 80 Ibs..... you'll want more after awhile and they are damn near the same price as the 60's

the max this car will ever see is 700 horsepower and really just want over 600 to the wheels. Any tuning issues with the 80#'s?

**** my current setup with the 100 shot made me happy (maybe 500-520 rwhp? trapped 99 in the 1/8th on a slooooow shifting trans).... lol now if i can just have something making damn near 100 more horsepower then i had with my nitrous im gonna be good! lol. Im also going t56 so its gonna be a big big change.

Stock 02+ ls6 cam will do the trick for cheap!

You could use that money on something else such as headstuds!
