Default wrapping exhaust pipe wet?

lookin at wrapping my headers back with exhaust wrap and some one mentioned letting it soak in water before i do it then wrap it tight and clamp it when im done then start car and let it get hot and dry up and when it does it will shrink and tighten up more and when dry spray with sealant or somethin, but i also read how moisture can get in it and cause the pipes to rust and all, so soaking it sounds like a bad idea if it will hold the moisture, any one have any suggestions on this? thanks

unless it's the new lava wrap stuff, soak it.

even then, I'd probably still soak it.

I prefer the regular wrap soaked, not lava wrap. If theure off the car, let em sit in the sun, when it dries it shrinks up nice and tight.

I first painted my crossover pipe with heat paint than I soaked and wrapped mine, let it dry in the sun and painted it again with heat paint. Still looks great.

That's how I've always used the stuff. It helps it fit better, and keeps the fiberglass dust down a lot. Your nose and lungs will thank you.

I ceramic coated my pipes, then soaked the wrap and wrapped. Used hose clamps at the ends. Put them in the sun for a couple hours, then painted with that silicon stuff. 2 years, so far so good.

I wrapped mine while wet, then sprayed with the hi temp silicone paint. Been a couple weeks now. The paint hasn't went away or faded, My manifolds were bare and rusty looking an I did 3 coats of the silicone paint and they look good now.

Use gloves when wrapping dry or wet. It will save you a lot of skin irritation.

Hmmm, I did not soak mine, or even think to soak it. I wonder if spraying it at this point would have any impact on the tightness? Mine is tight, for the record.

I used lava wrap. I first painted my crossover with high temp bbq paint think it was 1500 degree paint. I then dipped the lava wrap in a big bowl of water as I was wrapping the exhaust. It really helped as you can really stretch the wrap while putting it on. I let it dry over night, then painted the whole thing with dei silicone spray. It work very good and looks nice also. Wear some rubber gloves while you wrap it. I put a sweat shirt on and rubber gloves then taped my sleeves over the gloves haha. I didnt itch at all.

That's how I did it. If you want to **** off the wife, after you spray them initially, throw them in the oven at 500* for 30 min before you wrap them.

What about the DEI "Titanium" type wrap? Is that similar to the lava stuff mentioned?
