Default Which Block?

Hello, looking to put a LS or 5.3 truck engine in my Miata and turbo it, would like your thoughts as to which block is the best for boost. Currently have a line on a LS1 with very low miles from a 2001 vette, thanks guys.

Looking for a stock block, would like to run around 700 to 800 hp. Ice drag it in winter a few times, and drag it with slicks a few times in summer, other wise its a dd car. Just not sure what the aluminum block LS1 can take.

Im trying to decide which one myself. I figured that I would just pick which ever one comes first. 5.3's are alot cheaper tho. The iron block is gonna weigh more but since its going in a miata I wouldnt worry too much about that. If ur on a budget I say go 5.3.

I thought GM had a block with 5 head bolts per cyl that would be ideal for boosted aps, not sure what it is or if it was ever in a production car, I can get a complete LS1 with 1,100 miles for 800, that's cheap, but not if it cant take the boost. I drag raced motorcycles for 22 years, gas turbo, gas turbo nos, and lastly, turbo inj alcohol, I know where the weak spots are in a bike engine, just never boosted a car, that's where you guys come in. Thanks for the input and have a great weekend.

There are alot of threads on here with ppl pushing there stock shortblocks to the limit. Do a search im sure you'll find some answers. When you figure it out what your going with do a build thread on it. Its sounds like a very interesting setup.

That's called a SBC and they been around for a really loooooong time. The LSx blocks have either a 4 bolt/cyl in the production blocks or the aftermarket has 6 bolts/cyl.

For a Miata, I would try to stick to an aluminum block. 600 rwhp is a shitload of power for short wheel based little weigh nothing go-cart like the Miata. You going to put a chevy automatic trans in it? 5.7 w/ a TC76 is a well proven combo that'll get you there easily.

with all the 4.8 talk of late I would think it would suffice in a MX-5
