That may be, but a straight bar will be massively stronger than any single bar with a bend already in it.
It will be stronger than having nothing there perhaps, but Ive never seen anyone build a cage with a structural bar like that.
Although I would also add that the rules for cages in the US for cars are a bit strange or outdated sometimes given the structural integrity of modern cars.

Ready for the LSX Shootout!
We just finished installing the full cage at Farks Supercars this past weekend.
We put a lot of time into planning this cage so that it affects visibility and comfort as little as possible. Due to the space that was required for the now removed side curtain airbags the headliner bulged out right by the drivers head. To keep the bar as far to the outside of the car as possible we cut a notch in the headliner and actually fit half of the bar into the liner. The roof cross bar was also tucked up close to the headliner and does not affect visibility much at all.
