Don't know if it would help, or even 100% its interchangeable, but the Jeep Wranglers from the early 90s use a pump with a remote reservoir that's compatible with a Saginaw steering box. Its very compact, looks like the one in the pic from the front. The reservoir is the size of a tallboy beer can and mounts on the end of the jeep radiator. you end up with pump to rack to res to pump so an extra hose but it may help save space where ya need it.
