T56 vs.4L80 @650RWHP Who's had both?
5.3 in a 3800lb daily driver adding MP T76 over winter and I'm shoting for 650ish at the wheels. I have a 4l65 (05 trailblazer ss) now, and I know that w/boost it's not going to hold up. I already have a good stock 4l80e that I could install, but by the time I add a transbrake and good convertor I'm going to invest as much as buying a stock t56 swap. I know alot of guys are puting this amount of power through a stock t56 and a manual seems to be more fun but I've never driven one at that power level. How do the 2 compare strength wise, driveability, cost, etc.....The t56 seems easier to setup tune wise.

never had an 80e, but My formula is a give/take on the streets with a 6 speed. Its nice to be able to go on long trips and still able to get decent mileage with a 4.10 gear, however the car is not at its full ET potential at the track. and Auto would probably have the car in the low 10's, where as i'm stuck in the 10.7's. And dollar for dollar the 80 would be much stronger and more reliable IMO. Clutches are expensive and dont have near the life of a converter, and no matter how much you build a t-56 it will always be the weakest link in the drivetrain assuming you have upgraded everything else.

Thanks for the input guys. I was leaning toward the t56, but I want to do a trans swap once. I'm planning on running 10.90's this weekend 5.3 70,000 miles stock 4l60/convertor, 3.50 gears, truck intake and exhaust. Been running 11.95 w/150 shot. Switching to stand alone fuel w/250-275 2 stage shot. I plan on breaking into the 10's once if the 4l60 holds up. then jet it back down.

I only took my car to the track once with the 4l80, the iat sensor kept getting heat soaked making the car run poor at the line. By best run with the t56 was a 10.60 w/ a 1.55 60ft @ 133. With the auto, running like **** it ran a 10.90 with a 1.7x short time and only 125 mph same boost level. Auto is the way to go.
