When I was running 155mph at the track last year I did a back to back run with/without K&N's on the twins...did not change 1 mph. I'm now at 165 and need to retest. Somewhere it will become a restriction. I was very impressed with the small K&N's...I even added two Turbonetics Bells and it stayed 155.

Whilst googling stuff earlier today. I noticed that Camaro Andreas runs a pair of pretty small filters on his turbos.
If he runs them when racing, it's pretty clear that most road going vehicles should have no concerns about using an air filter.
But I did read his was dyno'd with them on. SO if it's making well into 4 figures....again, only a lunatic would not fit an air filter.

I cant see why anyone would ever want to run without a filter, unless they have so much money they dont care about debris going into the turbo/engine.
Or if it's purely for looks where the turbo intake is forward facing.

None of the filters last forever, you can see pics of Andreas' filters here. Just a regular smallish barrel style filter

I'd say he isnt doing too badly, and they are very small filters. Just fit bigger ones. Or build yourself a large custom airbox to take large panel style filters

I took mine off last year to get faster spool and more boost at the line on the TB without changing converter, it helped a couple of psi on the TB, not sure how much it helped on the spool time, but I never bothered putting them back in.

It sounds like most of you are running twins, which means you are running similar sized filters on smaller turbos.
Id like to know if my 7" long by 5" base cone filter is "too small" for my 91mm making close to 1k rwhp. thats the biggest filter that k&n makes, and is also the biggest thing that I can fit in the confined space.
anyone have any info on this?

Andreas runs BMC filters, which are very high dollar filters that formula 1 cars run. 2000 hp is about 200 lbs / min or about 100 lbs / min per turbo. 100 lbs / min = 1450 cfm, I've been doing a little research and haven't found anything filters that flow much over 1250 cfm.
