So what benefit does running an excessively large TB offer ?

I cant see any benefit at all ? Maybe well beyond 1000bhp a larger than stock might be worth something.. But at or below it, I just dont see it.

less restriction = more power at a lower boost level, but as I stated in my own personal case, its a bang for buck deal. All gains I've seen in regard to the LS2 were on NA platforms so I 100% agree on speculations of structural integrity, Same reason you see more 402/8s than 427s

And many wrongly assume that the TB is the main restriction in the first place. It simply is not.

If you are using 76mm OD plumbing ( ie 3" ) often with several bends before the TB. then clearly that will pose more of a restriction than the 90mm TB when fully open. The 90mm might flow all the air the engine can consume at say 70% open. So all a large TB does is reduce resolution of control under foot.

The FAST is designed to come apart and is bolted together. The LS2 is welded together on the outer edge but the inside is not. I epoxyed the 3 layers of my FAST together and have run 23 psi through it without issue. Can't do that with LS2.

Just becuase someone has made 900-1000-1200 or whatever power, doesn't mean it's the best option. Maybe they left 50-100 hp on the table.

After hearing a good bit of advice, I don't think I'll put any money into it, just a little bit of time. Ill just probably smooth the runners a little bit and maybe the opening. Anymore than that, I don't think it will be worth it on a FI setup.
