ive been runnin a huge *** spectre cone filter, been also debating removing the overflow resevoir, so i can run a 4in pipe and relocate the filter to the fenderwell...i could only assume if you can get colder air to the turbo, the less harder the intercooler would havta work, HOPEFULLY resulting in cooler IAT's.

i just deleted my intercooler and my filter is on the turbo right behind the radiator and my iats are around 150 cruising which doesnt surprise me because its probably sucking in 150deg air.
so im gonna route my filter to the drivers side bumperwhich should only take 2 45deg angles tops, my pt88 has a 4" inlet, do you think 4" piping would creat an issue

With an intercooled setup you will probably be seeing a 20-40* temp difference at the inake manifold with a cold air intake vs not and directly behind the rad

I want to build a CAI setup for my car. Anyone know where I can pick up some decently priced 4" aluminum bends?

FWIW, I posted this up a while ago because I couldn't find this thread again.

Hi all, there was a thread a little while back that I can't find that was discussing routine of a filter off the compressor to fit a larger filter. Where my turbo hangs it only allows a 5 inch long element to fit as it hits the frame. This caused a problem during dyno tuning where boost would taper off and iat's would rise rapidly. The short filter was showing signs of crushing and with the filter off the boost level would stay steady and iat would rise only slightly in comparison.

My brother in law and I decided to build off a pipe that would route down toward the passengers side turn signal area. we could fit a much longer filter and I'm hoping that when it goes back on the dyno it keeps boost steady and iat at good levels. I also wrapped the hotside which was already coate with swaintech coating.

Here are some pics. Thoughts?

I run 7.40 with air filters. They don't seem to hurt, lol

I've noticed (but have not measured) notable power loss with a filter on my turbo. I run a velocity stack w/ a wide mesh screen. The only way to not hurt intake is to have enough volume behind the filter and a enough filter area to not restrict.

Great info here, but question I have now is, which filter is good for some 800whp, I mean, doesn't cause much loss?
