Default Turbo Size

This is a tough question to ask i'm sure. But i'm doing a stock lq4 build with a turbo and not sure what size i should go with. I'm also going to build another lq4 while i'm racing the stock one this year. What size would be good for both??? I found a y2k turbonetics 91 for sale great deal just not sure if thats too big for a stock 6.0 any help would be appreciated

Hard to size a turbo without power goals handy and rpm ranges of the motor. Stock 6.0 vs built 6.0 may require 2 different things to be ideal.

I'd say a PT7675, but not sure if hitting 1000whp later is going to be an easy feat. Maybe a PT88 as it has the headroom for hitting 1000whp later, but the spool is a little later compared to the PT7675

yep. I'm running a TC76 (turbonetics 76mm) on my 6.0L and making ~700 and its not near its limit of airflow. We shall soon see, it will likely made 750 on the dyno in another 1k miles

I was also looking at an S88 or a garrett gt35 86
The 76's seem very common maybe thats where i'll start. Picking a turbo is a nightmare and theres so many different ways i could go. Also found a Garrett GT47-88mm for 1300 seems like another deal........decisions...

The smaller ones will be best for the stock bottom 6.0 for the lower hp goals but would be tougher to make the big numbers on the built motor. A 88 may be a good mix to handle both situations. Have to run some calcs on the maps to get an idea where performance may end up. Its not like you cant sell off a smaller turbo and upgrade down the road for little investment.

Thats very true. so the 76 is probably the best way to start this build and 88 and above after just was trying to find a good mix just in case but at least if i pick a turbo i can get this going

There are some 76's out there that can get up near 1000hp. Use the larger turbine wheels when you want to push the bigger power without back pressure issues.

I vote for the 76mm. My PT76GTS (MPH vs. weight) calculated out to 850whp conservatively on a 370ci. I think the 76GTS is similar to the PT7675 ???
Its spool up is instant... be great for a stock engine.

Go with a S480 or a S482. They make either in T4 or T6 housing. The T6 housing has a 96mm turbine wheel vs. the 75mm wheel of the Precision 76. It will run out of steam quicker on a 6.0, the precision that is.

The S480 and S482 can also be had in a T4 housing with 83mm 87mm or the new 92mm turbine wheel.

They are rated in between 1200-1350hp and are great quality units that can be had new for the price of a used Precision.

Don't even bother with the PT88. Get the upgraded 92mm turbine for your turbo or the T6 hotside and 96mm turbine. That will be enough for 100-150rwhp more.

Id go bigger than a 76. Like stated, bigger turbine for the cubes of the 6.0.

The 76GTS is the old designation. The new ones are available with a billet wheel and are called the 7675CEA etc. Rated at 1200hp instead of the regular 7675 at 1160.
