Made some more progress over the weekend and today. Got another mockup block back in and put everything back together. Then welded flex couplings in since the turbo is solid mounted. Good thing I waited to weld them till I got head gaskets for this block. Things did not line up like they did before with washers between heads and block Thought I had to scrap the crossover all together, but I was able to modify the support to make it fit again......

I'm still not sure I like where the turbo is mounted. The downpipe is going to be tricky, along with the charge pipe which will pass closely to it. Starting to get the idea that I may just dump a 5" elbow straight down.....Just not sure if there are any NHRA rules against having the exhaust open in the engine bay

Either way I'm making progress slowly and about ready to order the Pro Flo intake and a bunch of aluminum pipe.

The goal for this build was to make everything removable to make engine and trans swaps easier. I made the radiator support(s) and turbo support all removable for easy access.

Not the nicest welds but I'm getting better with my Miller Diversion 165

with the radiator mounted

I never thought much about that as the original plan was to use a remote pump. Lately I've been thinking I'll use the stock pump for now and do an electric pump another time..... The pic is deceiving, but no there is no room for the stock pump

Sure!

I have run into a small issue with turbo placement. Not sure how I'm gonna get the charge pipe to the throttle body with the turbine housing so close. Gonna take some thought.... Oh yeah, I got my Pro Flo today....

Here Dan, it happened.

Pics of my new Edelbrock Pro Flo intake. My only problem is gonna be getting a 4" charge pipe from the intercooler to the throttle body. The turbine and downpipe will be a little too close, so I may lower the turbo a few inches to gain room. Already have a new t-6 flange on the way if I decide to do this. Thankfully when I built the merge I have about 4 inches of 3.5" pipe before the flange. This may be a huge plus?

This gives you an idea of how the 4" pipe will need to be routed and my dilemma.

You get it from forced inductions? How long did you have to wait for it?

I'm finding out that forged stock stroke cranks aren't readily available. Guess the shortblock will be on hold till the backordered crank comes in. Since most will use the stock crank, there isn't a big demand for stock stroke forged cranks. I just don't feel comfortable running one past 1000 rwhp.

Still waiting on v bands and few other things to move forward. Will update soon

Have to thank Dschmittie for coming over today to have me weld bungs on his radiator. After they were welded, we starting looking over my build to come up with new ideas. Had to can the first crossover because it was becoming a plumbing nightmare with my intercooler placement. Instead of re doing the intercooler, I decided to start a new crossover. Having the turbo as close to the motor just wasn't working for me either. The downpipe would have been a PITA the way it was also.....

After a bunch of standing around and talking we came up with mounting the radiator in the nose. It's mounted at an angle on my Burkhart bumper support, and will allow puller fans. It opened up so much room ,so we played with turbo placement. Here are the results.....

Oh yeah, since I'm re doing the crossover I welded v bands to the manifolds

I may scallop the front fascia to have the whole compressor wheel open????

Finally got some more done. Built and rebuilt the turbo support until I figured out how to make it rock solid. I ended up using 1-1/8" chromoly tubing for the main crossmember. Then I welded a short piece at 90* to hold the turbo flange. Drilled holes through the crossmember and the "tee" and welded 1/2" tubing in. This works great for 3/8" bolts BTW. Finally made it solid and it looks pretty good too.

Then I started on the crossover again, but this time it was easier having v-bands on the mani's. Took a bit of time to get it sorted out but am happy with the outcome.

Still need to get a wastegate, BOV and materials for my downpipe but the hard stuff is done.

Really happy with how everything fits after getting creative

Thinking about using stock puller fans since there is room.
