Default 370 GT91.... 8's or bust build

Finally starting to put my car back together after killing the last motor 30 passes into it.

Sooo ,I figured I would start a build thread since I got the ball rolling on a shortblock. I finally decided on what internals to put in the LQ9 block I've had sitting. They will consist of Wiseco -3.2 pistons, Callies compstar "I" beam rods and figured I would try a K1 3.622 crank. A dragonslayer isn't in the budget and didn't want to regret not using a forged crank.... This will be topped with 72cc AFR 225's and I'm reusing my hyd. cam from my last motor.
Shooting for 10:1 compression.......

Decided on the GT91 with a 1.08 housing for decent spool time to fight long staging times. (The last setup seemed to take forever with 2-.96 housings to spool and only 8.7:1 compression). This will be cooled by a Reichard mini cube a/w intercooler that was a deal I couldn't pass up. It's Fireball's old intercooler from his FI98x setup.

Enough B.S., here is the car as it pretty much sits now.

Pics of the build will be coming soon....... Just haven't taken many yet.

flat black looks sexy
Im also looking at the gt91/pte8847 with the 1.08/96 for a 368 build but the pistons that are sitting in the shop are going to put me at 9.0.1
what was your old set up and the et you ran verses the new goals?

The old setup was a 402 with twin tc76's. Never got to see the true potential as I was still getting used to driving it and it only seen 15 psi. Did run a best of 9.13 @ 151 mph with a 1.31 60'. The new goals are to go consistantly low 9's and dip into the 8's in good air.

The GT91 I got is the first incarnation with the 94mm wheel and is rated to 1475 hp. They also have one now with a 97mm wheel and is rated to 1525 hp.

This is a track car that may see a small amount of street use. Trans brake and about 5 pounds of boost off the line.

The reason I switched from twins to a single was money mostly. Just didn't have the money to build what I thought the 76's were capable of. Plus I was going to build around the x275 rules, but again money being an issue that didn't happen...... Came down to budget and whether or not I wanted to see it run in 2 years or 10

It won't be flat black long. I miss having a shiney car already.

As soon as I put the mockup block and turbo back in there will be pics. Right now there isn't much to look at since I'm gutting it. Gotta make up for the added weight of the iron block and air to water setup. Want the race weight to be below the 3470 it was before.

Here are a few pics I snapped of what's going on now.

This is where the intercooler is going to reside. Decided to mount it where Fireball had it since there are mounting tabs made up for it. It should work good for my turbo location also.

Pic of cowl boxed in after cutting most of it away. I will be smoothing this out and using seam sealer aroung the edges.

Pic of the crossover I made. Still need to buy wategates and fab them in but you get the picture. There will be pics of the turbo setup installed soon....

I def like the Flat black, and best of luck on the new build, Im very curious to see how well the K1 cranks stand up to abuse.

Thanks. Been laying low and saving money and now it's time to **** it all away again

Unfortunately, there hasn't been a ton of people using K1 stuff that I've found to base my decision from. What I have read, the machining of their parts is top notch though.....

Now Dschmittie and I may finally get to line up after 3 years of talking about it. His car was down the whole time mine ran, so that never came about. Just a friendly rivalry to push each other to go faster.

Wish I could figure out what v bands you used. They are both 4" pipes but the v bands themselves are two different sizes
