what problem? Theres a few guys on YB with ls1s and haven't had any issues with holley and ls1 coils. I heard 1 person on this board say his ecu went bad with factory coils and high boost, is that what you are referring too?

Yes, thats the issue I'm talking about. Something about a feedback issue when using stock coils at boost over about 12 psi.

My little project has been on the back burner for a few weeks while I built a buddy a set of ctr arms for his 4th gen. They turned out pretty nice I think.

Got some work done on my engine this weekend. I disassembled the engine awhile ago due to a trashed cam + lifter to make sure everything was ok and to clean everything up. Was pretty suprised to see how much carbon and oil sludge was in the ring packs, (this engine had only 24K on it). I soaked all the engine parts and powerwashed them and everything cleaned up pretty nice. Num 1 rod and main bearings had some minor scratches but nothing to worry about IMO. Plus this is a stock shortblock build, so wanted everything that came in from the factory to go back in. Got the shortblock assembled this evening

Did you sand your pistons down? My 05 pistons have a big plus mark on them.

No sanding, just cleaned them. Im thinking that your engine may be the older style since there are so many small differences between them

I forgot how much I HATE porting heads, such a tedious, messy ordeal. I didnt go overboard on the heads as they are verywell designed: I opened up the bowl and guide area and raised the exh port roof a little. Also removed the boss for the rocker bolt inside each intake runner. Gotta be careful if you decide to do this yourself to not nick the seats.

Glad to have this part of the build done. I have about 8 hrs into these heads total. The edelbrock heads on the sbc engine have alot more work/time into them, I was really disappointed with them out of the box, after porting them heavily it went 6 mph and a few tenths quicker in the 1/4

Default Update!

Been working on the small little things that seem to take up so much time. Buttoned up the top end of the engine and installed it for the final time. Finished all the oil, fuel, and coolant hoses/lines. Its full of all fluids from radiator to rear axle now.

I recieved my dominator ecu setup but have a few problems, (1) ups dropped the box and the main power connector on the ecu is broken and (2) I'm missing 3 coils and 1 wideband, seems that whomever packed the box completely overlooked the area on the order for duplicate/multiple items. Hope this is resolved quickly

This weekend I gutted my interior and ripped out all of the wiring to make room for all the new stuff. Im going to post quite a few install pics of the wiring layout/install, so if anyone has any suggestions feel free to chime in. Im pretty finicky on wiring so it should come out nice and reliable.

Heres a few update pics, glad to have the engine assembled and between the frame rails for something other than mock up. The second pic shows a little support I built to help hold the weight of the turbos. Even though the manifolds are cast and the stainless is thick and beefy I was concerned about all that weight hanging so far out.

Default 1st fire

Well I got all the wiring done and got the engine fired last pretty late last night. Heres a quick vid after about 10 mins of run time. The idle surges but its getting better with more tune time. At first it wouldnt rev at all, would just go dead lean and cut out, so this is after I richened it up. Have tuned the in gear idle and tip in, so after I put the seats and gauges back in I can drive it around. Im pumped!!!

The link doesn't work. What tuning software are you using?

Yeah I took the vid with my phone and I cant get it to work, sorry. Im using the holley setup. I spent a good portion of the day messing with the tune, it runs amazing part throttle and blipping the throttle, its crazy how snappy this little engine is and the turbos sound amazing when you rev it up. The idle still surges, and I think I figured out why, the injectors are big (bosch 160's) and to lean it out I had the minimum injector on time at 1.6ms which is too little amount of time for them to open so it would go dead lean, then move to a different load cell and richen back up, and keep on with that cycle. So I raised the minimum injector time to 2.0 and it idles smoothly but its rich (11.0 afr neutral) (12.0 afr in gear) Thinking I may need some smaller injectors, unless someone has some tricks to get these to work, Ive lowered the fuel pressure to as low as the fpr would go (41psi) and it still does it.

Nice build! I see you remotely ran your water pump, what one did you use? Have any pics? Just looking for ideas, Thanks.

I had that problem with my sd 80's. I have FIC2000's and they idle great. Do you plan on taking it to a dyno or are you just going to the track?
