Default stock 5.3 TT build: THE GRENADE

This is a budget build a buddy talked me into mostly using parts I had already bought for another build. Ive been a nitrous guy so this is a major change out of my comfort zone. This is an attempt to see how fast we can push this poor little motor by putting it into a proven chassis. Except for a good tune and good fuel, it wont be spared any mercy.

Stock 05 iron 5.3 shortblock, stock hardware except head studs
ported 799 heads
modified ls1 oil pan and pickup converted to rear sump
ls2 intake
160lb injectors, e85
dominator efi
twin BW s366 turbos

Going into an 82 s10, stock suspension. Proven chassis has been 1.27 60fts, unfortunately its heavy @3200ish lbs raceweight. Hoping to have it built and tuned to make the shootout

dry nitrous . The turbos are a bit large for this tiny engine so it may need some help to 60ft. I may inject e85 post turbo to cool the charge. Will watch the iat's to see if its needed.

That should fly, with the chassis working it should go into the 8's.

Got a buddy that just got his 5.3 L33 block mounted in his 83 s10 last night. He is planning on turbos later this year as well. I look forward to seeing what this 5.3 does with the twin s366 turbos.

thats kinda the goal with this engine, see how far into the eights it'll go or die trying. This setup is being used as a learning platform for myself, use what i've learned and then build a proper engine to run some real numbers.

What kinda pics do you want to see? The rest of the engine is pretty boring and ugly, as its stock, I posted the pretty one already

Ive owned it for about 6-7 years and have done all the work myself. Heres some chassis shots.

Heres an older shot from outside a buddy took, its got radial tires now and I made my own cal tracs and dont stick down like the ones in the pic

That is stock suspension? Nice looking truck though. I thought the whole point of the S10 is because they are light. No?

Here is a pic of the old nitrous engine, e-85 and street driven ALOT

And here is how the old combo performed, this was a nice looking launch but the 60 wasn't that great. After strapping the front end down and some shock adjustment I was able to really lay in the power on launch, and keep it down. I dont know who took the vid but thank you, as its prob the coolest launch Ive done and my video camera broke that day so I woulda missed it

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0IqcCMXrWsU

best numbers as to date:
60ft 1.27
1/8th 5.74 @ 121
1/4th 9.03 @ 150

This combo still had more in it, and was getting faster and faster and I ran out of time to see how far we could go. Wanted to do something different and tired of filling nitrous bottles all the time.

Mine is heavy as ****, I added way to much bracing to the frame and it has a 12pt mild steel cage.

That is stock suspension in the drag racing community. You want to see some real crazy SS go look at 275x.

Here is a vid before the susp changes were made. It had bolt on slide a links, & some junky comp engineering shocks, stock ctr arms, stock steering, stock leaf springs, stocks brakes, & stock susp mounting points. I could never get it to hook on the transbrake, or on radials so I modified alot of things to make it work

Blowing through the converter as well.

Thanks for the comments! Its the best form of motivation. Got the fuel system done. Well almost, need to send one hose out a get a bmrs fitting crimped on for the ruturn into the tank. Pretty simple setup, walbro 255 pump is used as a primary and an aeromotive eliminator kicks in with boost, 30% throttle, or by manually turning it on by flipping the "high boost" switch. For you guys that are making lots of power with stock stuff, how important is the boost rate, can you throw on lots of boost very quickly or is gradually bringing it in a key in making it live when its on the edge?

Why does it seem like everyone is ignoring the problem with the Holley EFI, factory coils and boost?
