Depends what the outside diameter is. I have found that most of the scrap stainless 3" I have laying around my shop is actually slightly larger than 3" in diameter and almost never fits perfectly in the vbands without a little work. This would be much easier with an exhaust pipe shrinker and expander set.

Ideally, you would get 2.5" OD exhaust pipe that fits snugly in a 2.5" vband, though you could probably use 2.25" and use an exhaust pipe expander to expand it to 2.5".

Order all your Vbands from racepart solutions. Best ones I have used. And I have tried all the obx an non name brand ****. And I kick myself in the nuts every time.

Anyone ever used these flanges?

They are the type that slips onto the pipe, dont look quite as beefy as the OBX tho.

Those look just like some of the ones I've bought before. I don't see any problems with them.

I just realized what you meant when you said it has a step to locate them. that kind of tube joint won't work for the method I posted, and need the male/female locating rings.

I'm talking about the kind where you can slide the pipe through the vband.
