Default Oil returns on turbo setups.

I want to reroute the oil return on my car so it works alittle better. Is anyone running the return to the oil drain plug? If so how is it working for you? What about taping into the driver side of the oil pan about about a inch or two down from the top lip? Thanks.

drain plug should be out of the question. BAD idea. On the side is ok as long as its still above the oil level in teh pan.

id like to improve my drain as well
since i have the engien out now, i will go with a bigger drain, like a -10AN with all AN fittings and braided line.for no leaks

Anyone know how far the oil level is, up the side of the pan? Sounds like a nice idea maybe i`ll look into doing somthing similar. Mighty do you have any pics of your return?

i can take some.. keep on my back about it

someone on here once filled up a pan for me to see how far the level went up to decide where to put the hole..

i ended up getting nervous about hitting rotating parts and put it in the driver front corner.. but when i sent the car to george he switched to the side and used -10 also

The front corner is where it`s supose to be but we're trying to find somwhere that will allow it to drain better.

dude its freezing outside, ask all of your qestions at once! lol.

i would say the hose itself ends at about the same height maybe a half inch lower at most.... but here the oil just turns and falls into the pan, where as in the front location it has to go straight vertical to get back in.

mine is as the Incon instructions say front center of oil pan. I had a alum. -10AN fitting welded before it got powder coated. But now with the belt driven scavage pump the lines are going to be tight!

Oh and b/c I had it welded on with the pan off the fitting is no where near the inside of the pan, so no worrys on it hitting something!

ill try to bolt the turbo up to my engine with it out and see if MM's location would work with the TTi street kit. and get pics.

I think that the oil line being straight as it comes off the turbo then to the pan, then must travel up (due to the fitting) causes it to smoke.

Dave you have the tubular Kmember, do you think the stock Kmember would get in the way if we were to route the line like yours?

I think a setup like that would also stop the tendency for the oil to slosh up and back up the drain under hard breaking. Thanks for taking the pics MM.

i took alot of pics last night with my log and turbo bolted to my engine (as its out of the car now)
it shows were a good place to place the drain would be and such.

but dang it i forgot to bring them to work so i could post them!!!

ill get them up tomorrow.

im definatly going to go with the 10an steel braded line draining into the side of the oil pan.

Pics are up
http://www.cofba.org/users/smokinhaw.../oilreturn.htm

as you can see it looks like the side will work and not have to travle up the connector to drain.
