Default Stock 5.3 timing chain

How many of you are running the stock timing chain and oil pump? Or are you upgrading to double roller and an ls6 oil pump. I plan on running 12 lbs. of boost and to 6400 rpm. I have dart heads with good springs, so that should not be an isssue
Thanks

I am going to run a stock chain and pump. Haven't heard of any problems with doing so.

If you do want to upgrade, you can always get the better stock timing chain for an LS2.
They apparently have a better chain design.
I went to my local autoparts stock and bought just the chain for a 2006 6.0 LS2 GTO.
I think it was $30

I can pull the double roller and ls6 oil pump off of my ls1 if it had to be done but, but if the stock stuff will do why not.

what year is your 5.3. I have an 05 and my timing gears & chain were the same as the ls2. I called my local GM dealer and looked up the part numbers for mine and an ls2 and they were identical.

Just an FYI

It's out of a 02 avalanche, a rollover, with 130 k on it.

I believe yours is the older style. Does the cam sprocket have holes it it or is it all solid?

The spring pressures dictate if you need a double chain, If you have stout springs then it would be a good idea to upgrade to a ls2 timing set or a double roller. With dart heads Id prob upgrade anyway just for peace of mind, wouldnt want to break a chain and smash a valve into those expensive heads

I upgraded to an LS2 timing chain. I used the stock oil pump and was worried. However, I see 60psi of oil and 80 psi when I romp on it. I run 15lbs of boost and its held together a month so far with over a 1000 street miles and raped every so often.

I have not gotten the timing cover off yet, taking stuff off of the 5.7 right now. And found that the intake valve on #6 has kissed the piston a little, so now to see if the valve is bent, and maybe have the head checked for cracks. Or get some 6.0 heads.

I'd like to know what the deal is with this. I have a (supposedly) 02 5.3 that had holes in the gear and a replacement that came with it without holes. Looks identical other than the holes. And what is stamped on old vs new rods?
