Turbo LSX 454 crate motor???
I'm doing my homework in preparation for turbo setup for my LSX 454 setup. Couple things I know that are against me. The LSX 454 crate motor has 11:1 compression and not a good reputation for big boost. The guy that is all over the net trashing GM and the block saying his motor only lasted minutes on the dyno is of course at the front of my mind, but if you go to his original build thread on the camaro forum he had a whole dyno session at 16psi then tried to up the wick after upgrading his fuel setup and the motor went. I think that this motor like any other stock motor with higher compression not designed for boost at a conservative 6-8psi can make 100-150 more whp given the right turbo. Which brings me to my question how big of a turbo and hotside would I need to run to increase the flow for a motor this big at only 8psi. My thoughts were a S475 with a t6 1.01 hotside at 8psi would be a great setup and still spool fast enough to enjoy.

Not positive, but I think he already has the 454 by what he said?
My advice would be to sell it and get a purpose built boost motor. Just not worth hurting a good N/A crate motor that costs as much as they do. Only takes a bad tank of fuel or a bad tune to detonate and ruin a perfectly fine block. Even with only 8 psi it could happen easily..... Plus don't limit yourself to that little of boost, because you will eventually want more.....That's part of this disease we all have to go faster.

Motor is already purchasef and installed so the sell it idea throw that out the window. My questiin again is will a S475 flow enough at only 8psi max to make atleast another 100whp on a lsx 454 motor? If not which turbo would? Only other optiin boost wise I could think of would be a whipple 3.3 or 3.8 but they are a tad tall.

Maybe something like a GT4708? 8 psi on something that big is going to make a lot of power, way more than 100whp extra. 6psi on a LS3 can add 200whp.
I would definitely run it on E85.

You have the wrong motor, didn't you plan for future mods, if your going to drop that much on a motor you think you would plan ahead a lil, I would love a 454lsx but if I had boost on my mind that's the last motor I would pick, but hey if you hell bent on boost see what happens,

Hell if I can get a turbo that will make 100-150whpat only 6psi that's would be great but I think that 8psi is where I'll need to be at. As of now I'm leaning toward a s475 with big t4 hotside.

That's what I was thinking but not sure if I can fit something that big in my engine bay this is in a AWD trailblazer SS. My downpipe size is limited so I have to check for spacing to see what I can get away with.

Get a reducer to fit the downpipe you need. Just don't want to go from 5" down to 3". Just don't use a t4 flange turbo to fit a downpipe, especially with your cubes. Probably be better off using a s480 or even a GT88-91 turbo with that motor.

Those are some big *** turbos though my goal isn't just peak hp that's for dyno queens I want useable everyday power. This TBSS isn't really even gonna be a big track car but I just want a little more and to be able to run 10's if I do go to the track

I understand that you had a boost built motor but that doesnt make boosting this motor the wrong way. There are tons of companys that make turbo kits for high compression non turbo friendly stock setups with weak internals. The key is knowing your limit. Not to mention my internals are all forged and I can use alky as a saftey net.
