i am currently doing a turbo 5.3 s10 with the turbo in the bed. i plan on using a tonneau cover because i dont feel safe with thousands of dollars laying in the bed for people to see. do you think the turbo would be fine with the intake under the tonneau cover? or would it starve the turbo for air? i was going to run the turbo intake under the bed but the turbo might be too close to the end of the bed to fit a 4" intake pipe. i dont want to finish welding it all up before its too late

 

Anyone have any opinions?

 

If your worried about it just drill some holes next to the air fillter.

Why not just build it with the turbo under the bed? This would keep the turbo much cooler and supply it with all the air it needs. There is good ground clearence under there right?

 

I also agree, some holes around the filter should do it.

 

I'm thinking it depends on how big of a hole you cut for your intake and exhaust to go through the bed.

But I'm wondering why anyway, as the syclone typhoon guys never had any problem fitting a ls and 1 or 2 turbos under the hood.

 

you'll be fine even with the tonneau cover closed. Ive camped in the back of a truck with the cover closed, and it is still pretty drafty in there. it might get hot in there though

 

Gonna do the sam thing to my El camino! My turbo is going in the bed. I'm thinking about putting som vents on the side of my car so the turbo can breath. I'm thinking I might not even run a filter if the vents are on the sides since there's less of a chance of the turbo sucking in debre or rocks likee a turbo being mounted in the front bumper or grill without a filter. I plan on borrowing a lot of things from this fox set-up except my turbo and intercooler will be in the bed!

Thanks for the input guys. My original plan was to do a front mount but after welding it all up I absolutely had no room for a downpipe cause my crossover was under the bellhousing so I didn't have a path for a downpipe. I chose the bed because I wouldn't want water getting to the turbo just incase I was in rain even though I don't think it would matter and because of the show factor basically. All my pipes will be heat wrapped and ill have a turbo blanket to keep heat in to keep velocity going so I would have less lag with the rear mount. I might not even run a filter now that deeloc. But now ill have more piece of mind after getting all your input.

 

on powerblocks trucks! they did a bed mounted turbo in a tool box.

 

Thats bad ***! Did they have any sort of ventilation in the tool box?

 

Get a retractable bed cover. That way when you are driving, you can have it open, and if you want to park it some where then you can close it up. They aren't badly priced, and you will have the best of both worlds. With the heat of that turbo, you will want some type of ventilation
